Meet Rachel Bakerman of Three Day Rule

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Bakerman.

Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had been working at a market research company for many years. I was ready for my next professional opportunity. I had been networking for quite some time trying to figure out what was next for me. I wanted to work closely with individuals and have more of an impact. I also have a passion for coaching and helping people become the best version of themselves. I met a woman who had started her own business and previously had worked for Three Day Rule.

I was so interested to learn more about the Three Day Rule that I left the meeting and went home to look up the company. I found out that they were hosting an event and I decided to attend. I brought my resume, introduced myself to one the matchmakers there and said: “Not here to take any of the free food or drinks but wanted to introduce myself and see if you would be open to grabbing coffee with me someday.” I wanted to learn more about her role as a Matchmaker and ultimately if there was a position available at the company, I was interested. I was offered the role a few months later and the rest is history!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the world of client management, there are always up’s and down’s. Being involved in the world of love and dating, emotions are running high, lots of factors are taken into place and I have to manage all aspects of the process. My client’s expectations, my client’s mindset, making sure the matches are reliable and come to the date eager and excited to meet my client. I do my best to vet out matches in face-to-face meetings.

Asking probing questions to get to know someone better. Sometimes people let you down or unreliable, that can be frustrating for my clients and ultimately for me as well. I do my very best to continue to motivate and inspire my clients to stay focused, stay positive because dating can be rocky and that’s why I am here to support them along the way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about the Three Day Rule – what should we know?
The company I work for is Three Day Rule. Three Day Rule is a leading tech-enabled, personalized matchmaking company that helps singles outsource their dating lives to real-life matchmakers. We have matchmakers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C, and Orange County, San Jose and Philadelphia. We are the exclusive provider of white-glove, personalized matchmaking services to Match, and are backed by IAC.

I would say we are most proud of our personalized approach to dating. Digging deep and having someone articulate what it feels like to be in a healthy relationship, what are the core values that are important to them, what hasn’t worked in the past, etc. It’s a 360-degree approach to that individual as it is not just about dating. It’s also about learning about yourself, what you want, how you are presenting yourself, what can you do to be a more approachable dater, etc. In addition, our ability to effectively utilize technology to help us find the right matches for our clients.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Lots of people have played a role in my success in the Three Day Rule. For one, my manager has provided me with the right training, tools and best practices to help me grow into the Matchmaker I am today.

Secondly, I would say my Fiancé has always supported and encouraged me to push beyond my comfort zone when it comes to my career and has given me the confidence to believe in myself during challenging situations along the way.
