Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonah Faigel.
Jonah, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was introduced to balloons in elementary school, but never did much with them until high school. In high school I took a community education course that connected me to local resources. I was then asked how much a charge by an event organizer. (A teacher at school who ran church functions.) I did not realize that I could make money on this. I started practicing even more so that I could get really good. I now perform at Red Sox games, corporate events, and birthday parties.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I inflate tubes of air and transform them into different shapes. The shapes then look like an object, animal, thing, or person. I do it because it is fun. Also, because I like being like superman. I am Jonah the teacher by day and nights and weekends I am a balloon artist. I hope that people realize that there is no limit to what can be created by balloons.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I think conditions for artists today vary greatly based on the medium they work. Art as a whole has a more positive view in our local culture. The best way to encourage artists is to create ways for them to create art for the community.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have an appearance schedule on my website home page. I am appearing at the Topsfield Fair October 6th at 10:30 AM. You can always hire me for your event.
