Meet Wayne Czybora of Bonafide Home Inspections in Chelmsford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Czybora.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Wayne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I took a home correspondence course in 1994. They would send me a booklet on a topic such as Plumbing. I would read and study the booklet. There was a test at the end of each booklet which I had to take and then mail my answers back to them. It was fairly easy to answer the questions since I could refer to the booklet for the answers.

Every time they received my answers they would send me another booklet on another topic such as Heating Systems. This process went on for about 12 books/tests.

This process was easy. The hard part was having the courage to actually go out and perform home inspections with nothing but a home correspondence certificate. As we all know, houses cost a lot of money and these home buyers were counting on me to do my job well.

I remember the first time I dropped off some of my business brochures to a real estate company’s office. I was so nervous that I sat in my car for what seemed like an eternity before going into their office. I’m thinking “are they going to ask me anything? What if I don’t know the answers? Looking back, it was pretty funny to me but certainly not at the time.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The only struggle I can recall is just trying to get established because nobody knows you so nobody is recommending you. Fortunately, I was a full-time exterminator at the time, doing home inspections on the weekends. So I always had a weekly paycheck coming in.

Please tell us about Bonafide Home Inspections.
I have been performing home inspections for 23 years now. I am extremely proud of what I have accomplished is a sole-proprietor of this company. I never went to college so the success and stellar reputation that I have achieved as a home inspector is from a lot of hard work, dedication and perseverance. Nothing was handed to me. I am solely responsible for my success.

Having been an exterminator for 7 years definitely sets me apart from most home inspectors because not to many home inspectors have a pest license and past experience in pest control. If a home inspector does not have a pest license then they are not allowed to perform wood destroying insect inspections.

Another thing that sets me apart from most inspectors is a lengthy career of 23 years and the reputation that I have been able to achieve over the years.

At one point, I was a home inspection expert on Boston.com. There would be 3-minute video interviews of me on that website along with many blog posts which I wrote. They are actually still on Boston.com. If you go to my website (bonafidehomeinspections.com) and click on the Boston.com button it will take you to my blog posts.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Going to Old Orchard Beach for 2 weeks during two consecutive summers when I was about 14 years old. My family was on welfare during my whole childhood so we never even left the State. My aunt happened to have a friend who had a house there and her friend happened to have a son that was my age so my aunt would take me.
