Check out Peter Bain’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Bain.

Peter, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Three pieces of a puzzle came together to allow me to begin my journey making art. The first was a long and serious interest in art, drawing, painting, and design. Since I was in high school I was always filling sketch books, trying different mediums, and making art. The second was time; I was a stay at home dad and when my 2nd daughter entered elementary school six years ago I was able to enroll in classes at Lexington Arts and Crafts Society. The last piece of the puzzle was a great teacher. I began taking lessons with a fantastic painter, Paul George, from Ipswich, MA. Paul made painting fun and, more importantly, he made the process understandable and repeatable.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am an oil painter. I paint landscapes, figures, still lives, and animals; anything that inspires me at the moment. In all my paintings I am driven by the way light falls on my subject, creating a beautiful moment. These moments are all around us…the subject is not critical, it can be a grand vista at sunrise, a hen poking through the grass, or the sun streaming in through a window. I try to capture the colors and shadows created by light. And I hope that when I frame the painting and someone hangs it on their wall they see that light and it brings a bit of joy to them.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think that connecting with patrons is still the biggest challenge facing artists. Once you’ve made the commitment to create art and have developed your talent to where it is marketable you still have to navigate a wide and confusion array of avenues to your customers. Those avenues include social media, local venues, online stores, galleries, craft fairs, etc. I am still knee deep in this process.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can find my work in a lot of places. I’ve just been joined the Twist Gallery here in Lexington and show with them regularly. I have a website that showcases some select pieces (www.pbainart.com). My studio is jammed with paintings and I am always happy to have visitors. I have an Instagram account (@peterbainart) that I haven’t posted to in way to long (lazy!) …but I plan to resolve that in the next week or so. I also auction small pieces (6″x6″ and 6″x8″) on the www.dailypaintworks.com website. I will apply to join the North Shore Arts Association in September (fingers crossed). Finally, I am teaching a class this fall at the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society.
