Art & Life with Bren Bataclan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bren Bataclan.

Bren, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.

Do you have any advice for other artists?
Have a sketchbook with you at all times. Great ideas happen when you least expect it. You got to jot them down or draw them 🙂 And nothing beats following your passion and doing what you love. However, you have to be realistic at the same time. Finally, set goals for yourself/career.

Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I wish I knew that I would eventually become a full-time artist before getting my undergrad degree in graphic design and my master’s degree in computer animation. After years in computer graphics, I found out that creating art via computer is a painful process for me. I abhor fixing computer bugs and I didn’t like constantly having to learn software. If only I could turn back time and start painting right after high school…. But you know what? I don’t have any regrets. Being a graphic designer and an animator taught me to be disciplined, punctual and truly listen to clients. I believe that this sets me apart from other artists who just had fine arts training. With all this in mind, learn from your mistakes and as cliched as it may sound, challenges can truly make you stronger/better artist.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have a current group exhibit at the Boston Children’s Museum. And I just had a solo exhibit at the PAO Arts Center in Boston. PRI’s The World covered it: https://www.pri.org/stories/2018-04-20/artist-wants-make-you-smile.
