Today we’d like to introduce you to Sue B Zimmerman.
Sue, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been a passionate entrepreneur for over 30 years. I’ve had 18 businesses ranging from manufacturing to retail to teaching. I taught art classes, silkscreened and sold novelty boxer shorts, taught scrapbooking on QVC and for the last 7 years have taught social media to moms and business owners.
We all have a gift… mine is to see opportunity before anyone else… and to seize it. I knew Instagram was going to be huge and I used it to market and grow my retail boutique, SueB.Do on Cape Cod. I soon realized I could teach other business owners how to leverage the power of visual storytelling and to help them understand that you can grow your business using Instagram. At the time, there were only 140 M monthly active users. Now, there are over 1 billion.
Six years ago, I committed (on YouTube!) to becoming the Instagram Expert and to teaching Instagram to a global audience (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SFFiqFh2Vo). That is exactly what I do daily and I couldn’t be happier.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I like the roads I have taken.
There are always struggles in business but I have always turn the struggles into lessons and moved on.
Advice:
1. Do what YOU love not what other’s think you will love
2. Step into your zone of genius and say it loud and proud any and all opportunities you have. The goal is for others to feel your passion, remember you and talk about you.
3. Sever relationships with those who bring you down.
4. Give attention and time to those who you want to work with.
5. Your business should not feel like a J.O.B. – it should be what you love doing.
6. Challenge yourself to go outside your comfort zone – that is how you grow personally and professionally.
To me, success is when others talk about me and I am not in the room.
