Meet Jessica Waitt of Rinnovo Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Waitt.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I actually did an article for Boston Voyager last year on my personal journey, so I was pleased to be nominated again and able to answer more questions about my salon and our team’s journey to where we are! I was on my own when the concept of Rinnovo came about! I put out an ad for stylists and interviewed a few people, but two of the girls, Meghan Marlowe and Anna Melvin, both seemed to be on board with helping me start from scratch. They helped me build our brand and establish who we were going to become as a salon. We didn’t know it yet, but we would be the three to build up our clientele together as we put all of our eggs in the Rinnovo basket and hoped for the best!

We all had salon experience and knew we did good hair, but anyone in the industry knows it is not enough to just do good hair! There is so much more to it, and even though it was hard sometimes and we had a lot of work ahead of us to get our names out there we were able to rev up enough to keep our clients coming back! Once we saw the referrals, and the great reviews we knew we were doing something special and something the community wanted and needed! We added and lost a few stylists along the way, which was hard and we have been constantly trying to adjust with what our clients want and tell us!

As we have grown over the year, we added Danielle Dello who was our master salon assistant! She had the ability to help keep us on time, talk and greet the clients when they came in, answer the phones! She was the glue that helped to keep us on track, our backbone that kept us being able to grow and do more as lead stylists! Ultimately she ended up on the floor doing her own clients, which was an amazing promotion for her! We eventually also added Kat Parrish, who is our superstar wedding and makeup guru! She also does amazing color, and rounded our team out!

Our final station was taken by the very talented Amanda Middleton! With 8 years experience and the creativity to do almost anything, we knew we had to have her! We each bring something special to the team, and have been able to keep Rinnovo’s values, take care of each other and support each other’s journey wherever we are in the hairdressing career!

Has it been a smooth road?
We have had many bumps in the road! The salon as a whole was built well, but the building is older and we’ve had to have some repairs done and when you have no air conditioner in the heat wave or no heat on a cold day, you have to roll with the punches and problem solve! We did and in the end, it makes you stronger! We are 6 different personalities, and at times that can be a struggle putting your pride aside and taking care of someone else. The girls and I all see this is the better way to work and make others more comfortable in the salon.

The idea is to make clients feel comfortable, to make them at ease to come in and not feel the tension between us and to make sure that they can feel comfortable to go to any stylist without jealousy. It takes a special team to be able to do this, it takes communication and a true passion to want the salon to be a success as a whole and not just us as individuals. This can sometimes be hard because of course we all have our own goals, and we have our own lives and kids etc. However, we all see how important it is to continue to work hard to be a team and come together for the sake of our clients!

Keeping every single client happy, and keeping our reviews on social media in a good place is also a fear. With social media playing such a large role in the world and community these days, we try to always right our wrongs and make any unhappy customer understand we always want the best for them! Managing money, and meeting financial goals has also been hard, you think when you look at the numbers you’re making all of this money, but in order to be successful, the majority goes back into the business to make it better!

The road hasn’t been smooth, and it will never stay smooth but we’re prepared as a group to handle whatever comes our way!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rinnovo Salon LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Rinnovo Salon is a full-service hair salon as well as makeup and special occasion services. We are a team of 6 that are genuinely interested in meeting everyone wherever they are at in their journey to have the hair they want, the hair that makes them confident and feel their very best.

We are interested in more than just “doing hair” and learning about the person we are with, their lifestyle and personality. We specialize in being able to drop any judgment we have on anyone that walks in the door. We know the stereotype of hair salons to be at times intimidating, and at times being scolded for coloring your hair at home, or not buying salon products.

While all of these things are important and we have our reasons we recommend them, we are in no way wanting anyone to feel like we know better than them what they should be doing or what they should be spending their money on in their lives. At the end of the day, we are hairdressers with a special interest in actually helping people. We love doing weddings, we love being part of a special day, and making things run smoothly as well!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love our location because North Andover has an amazing community of people. They will support each other and at times pull together to help each other. We saw this first hand when we had multiple power outages last year and people we publicly offering up their homes and electricity to come together as a community.

We are also a great location because we are still very close to the city, and also close to Southern New Hampshire so we love being able to connect with people from all over and different lifestyles!
