Meet Charlie Godlewski of Charlie’s Painting in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Godlewski.

Charlie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I have emigrated from Poland in 1999. Since than I have worked for painting company in Winchester, MA (near Boston). I had to learn every aspect of painting and as beginner my job was fairly simple – sanding. I was sending all kind of surfaces and in near future it was my first master skill.

In almost 8 years I worked there I have learn a lot. In meanwhile I went to school to learn English. I was doing good. My employer trusted me and after 1.5 years I was running crew of 10 guys.

In 2008 I have decided to change something in my life and moved to state of Hawaii with my family. Living in Honolulu was a lifetime experience and of course working in painting industry allowed me to learn different skills associated with living on the islands. 4 years went by quick and I decided to move back to Boston.

After return I did work for yet another painting business. I was getting more calls about service and then I realized that it wouldn’t hurt to try my own business.

Officially I opened and registered Charlie`s Painting Inc. in 2015 year. Since than I have met some customers and now trying to expand and get people to know me better. Competing with other well established businesses is hard but I think that my good work will help me promote my business and gain more and more customers

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is never easy. Competing with companies or businesses that doesn`t pay revenue is a struggle. Well established companies are not easy to beat. Estimating has to be done right on target to win customer. There is busy times, there is slow times especially in winter time.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business specializes in interior and exterior painting. I love to work on restorations that bring old woodwork back to life. We install sheetrock and skim coat entire walls. There was no project yet that we refused to do due to its toughness. Damaged walls, water damages, bumpy walls, waved ceilings – we can get it all fixed. Stain work and wallpaper removal is another aspect of my work. I also have done some construction in past as framing, bathroom remodels, tile and trim work.

What were you like growing up?
I keep learning every day something new. Knowledge is a key to continue to grow. We all learn on our mistakes and because of them we know how to progress next time.
