Today we’d like to introduce you to Leila Halabi.
Leila, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always had something to say. I wanted to make a statement and wanted to be heard. I was told I had so much energy that I was nicknamed the Energizer Bunny. Struggling to find my place, position, and purpose, I always wanted to shine, to be a step above who I was yesterday. I learned, in order to do that, I need to be confident. I knew I was! How do I get others to see that? How do I get others to hear me? See me? I also found that I wasn’t alone. We, as women, hold an inner beauty. We fight to emanate that to the world. And then, I realized, that we have had the analogy backward all along. The analogy that, if I look good then I should feel good. On the contrary! if I feel good, then that should be mirrored in my appearance. What a better a way to accomplish that than through accentuating a woman’s already existing beauty? Hair Couture was then born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything worth having is not easily achieved. Establishing Hair Couture has been a lifelong dream for me. But by all means, it was not easy. Going through financial struggles, emotional debates, and unstable grounds to grow from were some challenges for me. But what better than a challenge to test my dedication. From these trials, my confidence grew. My belief that I can do it, aided my path to success.
Keep in mind that failure is, most definitely, a part of success. To fail at something means that you had to initially have tried. And that, within itself, shows your motivation to have taken the first step to your dream. Keeping focused on the greater purpose will be your drive. Without rain, there is no rainbow. Hair Couture is not only a beauty business but has become my podium. The podium for my greater purpose in life, instilling confidence in women and giving them the validation that they so hungrily yearn for.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hair Couture By Leila – what should we know?
As a Lebanese woman, growing up, I was raised to be prim and proper. I was also taught, that regardless of all of my daily responsibilities around the house, job and otherwise, I should never “let myself go”. What that means is I should always have time for myself. Taking care of my femininity should never be brushed under the carpet because I don’t have time to do my hair, makeup or nails. At the end of the day, we are women.
So, if I didn’t have time to go to a salon, the stylist would come to my home. I would get my hair blown out, eyebrows shapes and so much more. Having experienced this during my upbringing, I found myself embarking on my day with such vibrancy that I knew I already had. So, I thought that if this is how I felt, why not integrate that part of the Lebanese culture here in the States?
Hair Couture takes pride in offering wet and dry bar services to its clients in the comfort of their own home. We also cater to our brides on their wedding day. Whether they are getting ready at their homes or at a hotel, we make sure the bridal party is glammed up on time.
As a traveling beauty expert company, we offer our clients that piece of mind of one less thing to worry about, travel. Whether it’s a stay at home mom who has children or an office woman who needs to get ready early for her day, we are there! Hair Couture offers services all hours.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
Inspiration comes in all different forms. I find myself starting my appointments discussing the hairstyle of choice and leaving the appointment knowing their deepest aspirations. I have found that repeat clients are not a result of a service well offered, but rather the connection that is created with the conversation throughout.
Client retention is definitely on a deep level. It goes beyond the product and the service provided. When I speak to my clients on a more personal level and find a commonality between us, I stop being the Leila the Stylist and become Leila their equal. Hearing and feeling your client’s concerns and recognizing that there is a person within the client is when things become real and tangible.
Sharing life experiences and motivating them to be what they long to be, by example is so rewarding.
