Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Tran.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Julie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my journey in the hair industry in 2010, graduating from a vocational high school and achieving my licensure through Massachusetts State Boards for Cosmetology. I assisted in various hair salons for 3 years to watch and learn from others to gain experience I knew I needed in order to succeed behind the chair!
With continuous education, devotion and passion I was able to work hard and help enhance others hair dreams! Today, I continue to grow and learn as much as possible since the hair industry is always changing!
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not! Like any dream you chase, there are always up’s and downs. People are very particular and strict about their hair, which I completely understand–it is something you wear and expose to the world every day. It is always important to remember, that you can not please everyone. All I can do is try my hardest, using my communication skills, to try to completely grasp the image that a client is looking to achieve with their hair.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hair Artistry by J.TRAN story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a hair artist. I work out of a hair salon, Salon Oz, in Bedford, MA. I like to use the term “artist” because I am able to completely customize each guest’s hair to their expectations. I formulate multiple colors and use different techniques to cut and style hair based upon each guest’s hair types. I specialize in balayage and hair painting techniques. This “free-hand” technique creates beautiful, natural results that can suit any haircut/type!
I also LOVE to blow-dry and style hair. It is like adding the last ingredient needed to perfect the hair! I am proud of what I have been able to achieve since starting in 2010. The most important thing as a hair artist is communication. I ask A LOT of questions when it comes to someone’s hair. I need to be completely accurate with what the expectations are and I need to be able to relay a message back that will explain my process, my procedures and what the most realistic outlook will be.
I feel this sets me apart from others because communication skills aren’t always used by everyone. If you truly want to succeed and create beautiful artwork, it takes teamwork–between myself and the guest– to make sure we are all on the same page!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The hair industry is CONSTANTLY changing! Balayage is still a really big color technique going on now and it has the most beautiful outcomes. Braids are becoming quite popular again, as it is a way to try something different to a style! Tight or loose, braids help extenuate any look you are trying to achieve.
