Meet Trailblazer Denise Gonzalez-Ramos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Gonzalez-Ramos.

Denise, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Shaped Curvy started during a difficult time in my life, right after the birth of my second daughter. At the time, my oldest was only 15 months and we had a newborn. I was torn between going back to work or being a stay at home mom. Many women face this challenge after they birth children back to back it’s an emotional battle between being financially secure for your family but also being 100% available for your children during the most crucial developmental years. After much thought, I decided not to go back to work and open an Instagram business page. I initially started distributing compression garments from one of the largest manufacturers in Colombia. Compression garments I knew well from years of use from my teen years and throughout adulthood.

Immediately, after I opened a website and received my first sale 2 weeks after on August 1, 2016. I remember being so excited someone all the way from Florida had made a purchase. The rest was history I came across a plastic surgery community via Instagram only to find a need for information and services required post operative. I began to research and became very involved in learning about cosmetic procedures within the United States and Internationally. When I started Shaped Curvy, we distributed many products offered by different companies. We are now in the process of manufacturing all our own products one would need after undergoing plastic or cosmetic surgery. We hope to be the first American based plastic surgery supplier to carry all of our own products that will no longer require outsource from Colombia.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Making the decision to no longer work for someone else and taking the risk of starting your own business is a scary decision. Especially if you have children or someone depends on you as a provider. I won’t say it was easy because, in the beginning, it was difficult. There were many days I would burst into tears and I just wanted to give up. I would have to make the decision whether to pay a bill versus buying supplies needed for my business. Failing was not an option my daughters were watching me. My advice to other young women that are torn between start their own business would just do it. If you fall 6 times, get up 7. There is no greater satisfaction than to be your own boss.

We’d love to hear more about Shaped Curvy.
