Today we’d like to introduce you to Vienne Cheung.
Vienne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story began some twenty years ago. At the time, I attended Brookline High School and was part of the school choir called Camerata. We traveled to Italy during our sophomore year of high school to perform. Since then, I have been in love with Italy and it’s culture of exquisite craftsmanship. From Italian cars, fashion, and hosiery – these are just a few of my favorite things!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, so good. I guess the proverbial road could be somewhat smoother had I came from the fashion industry. However, no one is ever born an expert in any field, therefore we all must start somewhere.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about VienneMilano – what should we know?
VienneMilano is a luxury hosiery brand. Established in 2011, we began as the first ever luxury hosiery brand dedicated exclusively to luxury thigh high stockings. I’m proud to say that starting fall 2018, we will be adding knee highs and over the knee socks to our collection.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance, curiosity, and humility. I am originally from Hong Kong (a city of 7.3 million people in 1,063 mi²), therefore, as a child, you learn pretty quickly how incredibly irrelevant you may be in the world (or at least in Hong Kong). Therefore, it’s up to you to pave your own way. But as a roundabout way to answer your question, when I was 6 years old, I once overslept on a school bus on. At the time, I was supposed to get off with my friend to go to her house. Unfortunately, my friend got off and did not tell me to wake up. I told the bus driver to let me go at the next stop – which he did. Thankfully I was aware of the area where the bus driver dropped me off (thanks to previous visits to relatives). Long story short, I was determined to get home and was able to find my way back successfully. It’s through an experience like this that has carried me through the launch of VienneMilano and bringing our fabulous hosiery from Italy.
