Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Podworski.
Jamie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I found my love for filmmaking when I worked in television for ten years at a few different news stations around New England. My background was in sports, so I decided to leave the television business for a more stable lifestyle that was conducive to raising a family. I began a sports recruiting video business on the side utilizing my connections within the high school and college sports communities and JPod Films was born.
I always loved the storytelling aspects of feature stories, so when I was asked to film a high school football coaches wedding, I was excited for a more creative challenge. It was that wedding that changed the direction of JPod Films. Having the ability to tell a couples’ story, while having more creative freedom quickly turned into a new filmmaking passion for me.
Since that first wedding in 2007, JPod Films has grown to film weddings all over New England and beyond. I really feel that the skills that I learned as a storyteller in television has translated so well to this industry. The high paced action, and one time chance to get it right is something I was comfortable with from day one. I love the adrenaline rush of filming the big moments of the wedding day and seeing a love story unfold.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think we all wished that it would be a smooth road. We have been fortunate to have our business grow and reach new heights each year. With that said, work/life balance has been and is always the biggest challenge of owning JPod Films. It something that I think I get better at it every year. With weddings happening on the weekends, balancing the rest of the week with family time and obligations is crucial to being successful as a business owner and a father. For us, the work really begins after the wedding day. Therefore, being efficient with post-productions is very important and it presents a second important challenge for us as a filmmaking company.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JPod Films – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
JPod Films specializing in wedding films that tell stories while capturing the anticipation, emotion and energy of the wedding day. I want our couples to not only watch their wedding day happen again, but feel it again too. On our website, we state it this way: Who are we? We are people who like to tell stories. We strive to capture who you are. Your spirit. Your love. Your laugh. To us, it’s more than a video, it’s a wedding film.
We love investing and getting to know our couples so that we know who they are as individuals, and why they are so good together as a pair. This helps translate into creating a wedding film that matched their personalities. Every wedding film has its own feel based on the couple. I also love that we become lifelong friends with many of our couples and their families beyond the wedding day as well.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our future plans are to continue evolving every year to make great wedding films and memories for our couples.
