Meet Trailblazer Jenny Fenig

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Fenig.

Jenny, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been driven. I love to lead. I love working on exciting projects that make a real difference in the world. The death of my 12-year-old sister J

I made my way from the University of Florida to the bright lights and fast pace of New York City for an account executive position at a global public relations firm. That’s where I worked with the top brands in the world (M+Ms Candy, Kellogg cereals, Pfizer’s Viagra) on their core messaging, product launch events and media relations. I worked with the smartest, most creative people and was having a lot of fun … but it wasn’t as fulfilling as I hoped it would be. So I changed careers…

The next stop in my career journey was as a conference producer for a research company in the Marketing and Business Strategy Division. My job was to create and curate premium conferences targeted at senior-level executives from Fortune 1000 companies, plus the suppliers who work with those companies. I learned SO much in this role. I was responsible for conducting and analyzing research, directing brand identity, creating compelling, commercial content through our amazing speakers who I booked, writing marketing materials and managing the on-site conference experience. My job was also to ensure my events were PROFITABLE. This taught me to think like an entrepreneur, a skill I use as a business owner today.

Although I was successful and a 6-figure earner in my corporate life, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to life than what I was experiencing. This feeling wouldn’t leave me alone. At this point I was married to my husband Steven and I’d complain to him a lot. He was very understanding having made a massive career shift from attorney to sports television producer!

So right around the time I turned 30, I decided to sign up for a 200-hour yoga teacher training in NYC. I had been a devoted student of yoga and now it was time to go deeper into my love with this practice. This decision changed everything for me.

Getting healthy and focusing on my spirituality and what is TRUE for me (which is what yoga helps me do) gave me the courage to quit my job WITHOUT another job lined up. I wasn’t sure what I would do next. I didn’t have a plan other than to trust my inner voice and where I was being guided.

That eventually led to me discovering the field of coaching. I signed up for an intensive coach training program and immediately started working with clients. To bring in a steady income while I was a new coach, I freelanced as a conference producer (working from home!).

I loved coaching! It was everything I had been searching for in my career as it is what I naturally do in my life. It is who I am. Once I gave birth to my first child, I chose to let go of the conference production work and fully focus on my coaching business and mothering.

Being a fantastic coach is one thing. Having a thriving business is another. I needed help here so joined a mastermind with a top business coach and have never looked back.
In 2010, we moved to the Berkshires (Great Barrington!) full-time and that is when my business truly took off.

I wrote and published a book called “Get Gutsy” and produce a podcast by the same name. I lead various coaching programs, trainings and retreats for spiritual entrepreneurs and women leaders on a mission to cash in on their calling and make this world a better place. I now head up my own coach certification school to teach coaches how to make a difference and a great living.

My clients and community inspire me so much! They are adventurous, curious, smart, funny and ambitious. They are the change-makers this world needs more of.

So why did we choose the Berkshires? My husband introduced me to this gem of a place and I instantly fell in love. His family owned a vacation home here and it was the perfect place to get away from the intensity of New York City. After we had our first child, it became clear that we wanted a different kind of life and the Berkshires was the clear choice.

I love being in nature. I love the slower pace. I love the SPACIOUSNESS I feel here. I love how quiet it is. I love living in the country.

A secret to my success is that I’m constantly learning and investing in my growth and development. I’m also fiercely protective of my time and energy. I make my health and fitness a priority. I work with the energy of the moon and the seasons to guide my flow. Now that I have 3 kids, I don’t have time to work all the time. So I use various techniques to optimize my time and productivity for maximum results.

I feel very blessed about my journey and look forward to what’s next!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has certainly NOT always been a smooth road! Struggles include entrepreneurial loneliness, marketplace shifts, clients flaking out on their financial commitments, listening to advice from others instead of my own inner knowing, team changes, and working TOO much early on and letting my personal life suffer.

My advice to other women, especially those of you just getting started:

> JUST. DO. YOU. Don’t try to follow the crowd or be someone you are not. Do you.

> Have a deep understanding of the PROBLEM your business / offering solves for your audience. Sell the PROBLEM and make it crystal clear you have the solution (instead of making the conversation too focused on your product / service – that’s when you lose people). Ask for the sale and TRUST that the right people always say yes. Don’t be afraid to follow-up as that’s where the gold is.

> It won’t happen overnight. Growing a body of work takes time, discipline, commitment and consistency. Stay with it. It’s worth it.

> Have a spiritual practice. Sleep is a spiritual practice! Travel is a spiritual practice. Being in nature is a spiritual practice. So is being mindful what you put in your body (food, drink, thoughts, exercise, products) and in your environment (people, animals, stuff, and commitments). Journaling, meditation, prayer, gratitude, movement and working with healers and guides are huge. Nurture your connection to SPIRIT and you won’t be led astray. You’ll be able to handle any setback that comes your way.

> Be CONFIDENT. You are amazing. You are changing lives with your work and how you are showing up in the world for yourself and for your people. You are loved beyond measure. Never forget this. The end.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jenny Fenig – what should we know?
When I recently asked my community how they’d describe me, this comment caught my eye >>

“Energetic vibrant goddess coach whose vibe attracts her tribe.”

So I guess you can say that’s how my people think of me.

MY MISSION IS TO HELP WOMEN CASH IN ON THEIR CALLING THROUGH THEIR SACRED WORK.

I help entrepreneurial women get clear on what they are here to do, who they are here to help, and how to design their business, brand and offers to help more and have more (without working more).

My tribe is filled with movement-makers, rule-breakers, activists and creatrixes … coaches, authors, experts, consultants, teachers, fitness pros, healers, therapists, creatives, executives, network marketers and side hustlers committed to making an impact in this beautiful world and being financially free.

I’m most proud of my clients! We seriously have the most amazing women in my community. And they are ALL OVER THE WORLD. I recently had a client from Russia attend a retreat at my home in the Berkshires and have another client from the Philippines coming to my next retreat. Clients have met me in exotic spots like Costa Rica and Mexico for deeply transformative work. I love that my clients go ALL IN. They know that the work is the way.

I’m also so proud of the way I’ve designed my work so that I’m able to spend a lot of time with my family. My husband and I homeschool 2 of our kids (we both work from home and share the homeschooling + hire teachers to support the learning). The design of my business allows me to do give my family what they need, give my clients what they need, give myself what I want, and give to causes I care about.

What sets my business apart from others is that we mix strategy and spirit in all we do. When you live and lead this way, you can’t be stopped. You are a true force of nature. You are happy. You feel complete.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Yes, as I already shared, the death of my 12-year-old sister Julie taught me not to stress about stuff that doesn’t matter or that I can’t control. Surviving her death as a 16-year-old high school girl made me who I am today.

Six months later my best friend Sonda’s brother died. Two deaths in a row was intense to handle. When Sonda died 2 years later, it brought me to my knees. Three deaths in 3 years as a teenager. Changed me forever.

I feel them all the time. Their energy protects me. I know this to be true.

They taught me that life is not always fair.

I’m not available for people who don’t accept me for me (that includes people who want to hire me). Life’s too short to wear a mask and pretend you’re someone you’re not.

MY MESSAGE TO YOU AS YOU RISE HIGHER WITH YOUR SACRED WORK >> LET ALL WHO CAN’T APPRECIATE YOUR SPARKLE FADE INTO THE DISTANCE. MAKE SPACE FOR THOSE WHO MATTER AT THIS STAGE IN YOUR LIFE.

You’re allowed.
