Check out Erin Wilson’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Wilson.

Erin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
After years of working in the corporate world (and I am very thankful for my experiences), I made a major lifestyle change and moved out to Nantucket full-time. I thought it might be temporary but I loved it and stayed. I work in Real Estate on island but I needed a creative outlet and for years I have wanted to start my own business. In the Spring of 2017 I launched A Salty Soul and the momentum started building. I love working through new designs and managing every piece of the business. I am learning SO much and if something goes wrong, I fix it, learn from it and move on. I love the give back component of the brand and while currently I fund surf lessons through the Boys & Girls Club on island, I look forward to partnering with more communities all over the country! I am loving my island life but I was in Boston for 14 years and love coming back to visit, especially my old stomping ground (South End).

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I started a sea-inspired lifestyle brand called A Salty Soul. Currently the brand consists of apparel. I come up with new ideas and mock-ups of designs and work closely with my graphic designer to execute on these ideas. It is such a fun and collaborative process. And also, sometimes scary because you hope the design will resonate with your customer. I think the sea is so soothing and the laid-back style of beach life comes through. I try to make the brand about living your life to the fullest and supporting one another. I try to highlight various salty souls to help inspire people about how you can pursue your dreams and passions.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
The reality is I has another full-time job. I try to be wise with my investments and the challenge in my business is you need to invest a significant amount in inventory upfront. I had to find areas to save for now while I get the brand off the ground. For example, I made my own website, I manage my own Instagram account. Eventually I will need to work on outsourcing some elements of the business in order to scale it. But the reality is, you work you’re a** off in the early years wearing so many different hats. But it’s rewarding when you look back and see all of you done so far.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
