Kevin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Lapels Dry Cleaning was founded on the premise of convenience and a true 100% environmentally non – Toxic way to clean clothes. We utilize the world’s only true Non-Toxic options to cleaning clothes – Green Earth solvent which is a liquid silicone that breaks down naturally to sand and water and true wet cleaning.
The convenience side of the business is driven by FREE Home & Office Pickup & Delivery, the latest in Technology to interface with our stores and having Franchise Owners present in the business to delivery customer service like the dry cleaning industry had not seen prior.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey from day one has been very rewarding but certainly not without its challenges. The Dry Cleaning industry has had little to no consolidation over the years. Many of the manufacturers of equipment were unwilling or unmotivated to build something that was better for the environment and the cleaners of the world had little incentive to push them.
Today the mindset has changed all around. Customers are now motivated to do better for the Environment and having the world’s only 100% Non – Toxic Dry Cleaning solvent has been a great advantage to us in terms of locations that we are able to go into and the customers that we service (Intel, Google, Harvard, General Dynamics).
Lapels Dry Cleaning – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lapels Dry Cleaning is a Dry Cleaning franchise that builds both Environmentally Friendly Dry Cleaning Plants as well as Satellite stores that are serviced by those plants. We build a boutique like store that offers the very best in quality dry cleaning and laundry services at a fair price to the consumer. We are franchise owned and therefore we have in many cased a resident of the community involved in the day to day operation of the business.
In most towns we offer FREE Home & Office Pickup and Delivery as well as technology to help us interact with the ever changing consumer.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’ve had a couple moments that have been standouts in my career. Being named #1 in Category in Entrepreneurs Franchise 500 last year was a wonderful acknowledgement that felt like the culmination of years of work in building our brand.
The other would be watching a franchise owner build a store with the hopes of paying for his daughter’s college education. He then went on to sell it and accomplish his goal after much hard work. These relationships with the franchise owners are the most fun part of the job.
