Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Getchell.
Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a strong passion for the field of health and wellness and have been specifically fascinated with how the body can heal itself naturally. Growing up, I spent most of my time training in dance and yoga, studying the mind body connection, and learning as much as I could about healthy eating and mindfulness. When I was expecting my first child, my interest in studying the intricacies of pregnancy and postpartum became a serious focus of interest which led me to pursue it further with doula training and health coach certification. I now have three children and am learning, on a daily basis, how important it is to care for yourself on a deep level so that you can care for others. I work with women, of all ages and seasons of life, who are looking for support, accountability and relevant, real advice.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest challenges, and I think many people can relate to this, is taking on too much. For me, as a parent, I struggle with finding a good balance of being present for my family, while also being available for my clients, friends and interests. In the process of starting my health coaching business I really dialed into who and what my priorities are and am consistently working to shift energy to those priorities, while realizing that there are things that I will not be able to do. My mantra these days is simplify and minimize!
Delivering Holistic Wellness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Delivering Holistic Wellness specializes in educating and empowering women to feel in control of their health so that they can focus on what lights them up personally and professionally. This includes their physical health but we also focus quite a bit on finances and the effect that financial security has on relationships, stress management and overall wellbeing.
Oftentimes, when we look to feel better in our bodies, or mitigate stress, we think about healthy eating and exercise. That is certainly part of the equation, but financial security and confidence plays a large role in stress and as we know, stress is a leading cause of many health related concerns and physical symptoms. I have spent almost 15 years as a financial advisor and have met many people from many different backgrounds. I enjoy bringing this experience to my coaching, while integrating healthy practices related to nutrition, exercise, relationships and career satisfaction. The emphasis on financial wellness is not typical for health coaching, but adds a deeper level of exploration for my clients and tends to get to the root of many of their concerns. It’s all intertwined and interesting to explore.
Delivering Holistic Wellness has recently started mentoring teen girls through one on ones and group workshops in the community. This is an area of our work that I am very proud of and excited to expand on this year. We focus on forming healthy habits that will continue into adulthood, practicing self-care, supporting one another and recognizing what works best for you may not work for someone else. It’s all about self-discovery.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Some days I am proud to leave the house with two matching shoes on! I try not to take things too seriously, but I do feel proud and also privileged to be able to work in a field that brings me joy and allows me to teach and support other women as they explore what helps them to think and feel their best. I’m fortunate to have been recognized as a Top Female Advisor in the financial profession and completed health coaching school and doula training while pregnant with our third baby.
