Meet Vienne Cheung of VienneMilano in Downtown Boston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vienne Cheung.

Vienne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea for VienneMilano was in 2010, while I was working for Akamai Technologies. While I loved wearing hosiery to work, I preferred thigh high stockings instead of the traditional pantyhose normally worn in corporate settings. Unfortunately, I couldn’t locate any stores that sold a wide variety of stay ups in the US — the only place I managed to find any was in Italy! So I decided to create my own company dedicated exclusively to high-end thigh high hosiery.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the challenge I faced is the fact that I did not start out with a background in fashion, so getting up to speed was important.

One erroneous notion that I entered the business with involved product color selection — I thought consumers preferred colors. I was originally told by my producers that most women prefer to buy black stockings, but I just didn’t believe it; so our first line included a lot of colorful options. Surprisingly, black was our bestseller. Lesson learned.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with VienneMilano – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
VienneMilano is a luxury hosiery brand dedicated to thigh high stockings that are made exclusively in Italy. Our finely crafted materials are used to help women bring out their inner sensuality in every occasion. What makes us unique in the city of Boston is the fact that we are the only fashion ecommerce business that is dedicated to thigh high stockings made in Italy.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Since my family moved to Brookline in the 1970s, I’m biased toward loving the greater Boston area. Another thing to love about this city is how convenient it is to travel abroad from Boston. On the other hand, what I dislike about Boston is that there are no direct flights to Milan! I know this route used to exist (about twenty years ago), but now I have to fly to some random European city (which isn’t a bad thing, I suppose) whenever I travel to Milan for VienneMilano.
