Alice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated as a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Brazil. Always interested in artistic things, it was when I was recently had moved to the US that I focus on photography as a business. Continuously attending dark room, developing negatives and making prints as a hobby. I started offering session for local families and working as a second photographers for others until I open the studio in 2006. Started as a part time job, meeting my clients at my house and doing weddings and photo sessions on location. It took off from then, in 2008 I rented a nice studio and in 2009 I doubled the space to what it is today. We have a dedicated camera room with the option of natural light or studio strobes. We offer professional headshots, personal branding photoshoots, high school senior photos, glamour and boudoir and of course our specialty, which is weddings.
Since started as a business I was always focused on providing the best customer service to my clients as well I have been committed to improving our services technically and artistically. That is why I signed up to belong the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and PPAM (Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts). Not only to have access to other professionals in the area but also to keep specializing in lighting and posing, learning new trends, keeping up with our industry to offer the best to our clients.
I have won many blue merit ribbons on print competition national and internationally. Have been selected as Silver Photographer of the year in 2014 by PPA, Won Best Image on the wedding specialty at the PPAM 2017 convention and a Court of Honor Award for Wedding Photography in 2017.
Also, I became a Certified Professional Photographer in 2015. A title that very few photographers have.
We are now looking to expand our team of photographers, so we can serve more clients in the same date. All of our photographers will be trained personally by me to keep the same level of work provided to all clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business on a different country than your own is never an easy thing. When I first came to the US I was not fluent in English. So obviously I had to take care of that first, and to this day still I work on improving my second language. As for photography, it also hasn’t been easy. Photography is an Art that you improve upon continuously. I had a major advantage because I attend Art School, but a good photographer is always learning and practicing new techniques. Equipment changes rapidly and it is very important to keep it up. I personally love the challenge of the continuous education. It makes it exciting!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Imagery Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My photography studio specializes in photographing people. So we offer high school seniors photos, headshot for professionals, personal branding, contemporary glamour and boudoir photos and wedding photography that also covers engagement sessions. Our style is contemporary and elegant, our clients repeatedly tell us that I made them feel very comfortable in front of the camera, which obviously is very important to look natural. Before every session starts we take the time to get to know what the client wants so we can create something that fits them, even if we give some guidance on posing, our style is very natural. We teach some basics because we want our clients to look their best, so a few posing tips helps build confidence in front of the camera. Ultimately want our clients to know the basic and relax for natural expressions and authentic interaction.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are in the process of expanding the number of photographers in our studio. This will take time as I’ll personally train each person to photograph in the same style as I do. Keeping it consistent it is very important to me as people hire my studio based on my work.
