Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Cotter.
Carolina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My entire life I’ve been so passionate about beauty and health, and helping others feel their best. Starting from when I was really young and throughout high school I would get such a thrill just to do hair & makeup for my friends, or just generally wanting people around me to look and feel amazing. I started off going to school for exercise science, and later on ended up in esthetic school, honestly not knowing where either one would lead to. My first job as an esthetician began right after school almost 7 years ago, where I did eyelash extensions, makeup, skincare, waxing, etc. Most of what I did, and still do today, was not nearly as popular as it is now. It’s fascinating to watch the demand of anything in the self-care industry rise so immensely within just a few years.
A little over 3 years ago I decided to go off on my own and start my own business. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing but was too afraid to fail. I’m so fortunate to have friends in this industry who have been unbelievably helpful and supportive, as well as my clients. Some of them have been with me since I first started, and I have developed amazing relationships with. I’ve also been lucky enough to have a big family consisting of a lot of women, who have been my cosmetic volunteers whenever I need to test out something new. I think in order to succeed in business, you have to be dedicated and be willing to make sacrifices. You have to love to work and be passionate about what you do, and your drive has to be more than just making money.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not! As far as being consistent and busy, I’ve been so fortunate. But along with running a business comes all of my doubts and fears. There are so many things that I’ve learned, and so many things I can’t control. I’m always fearful of making mistakes, but with making them I’ve learned from each and every one. One challenge was not having a mentor to guide me in the same industry. However, I do have multiple mentors in my life who are business owners, and are always supportive and want to see me succeed.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with C2 Skin Bar – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I mainly specialize in eyelash extensions, waxing/threading, bridal/event makeup, and skin care, and have recently added on a few more services. It’s important to me to be trained in a number of services, but not too many that I’m spreading myself too thin. This way I can offer a higher quality of services and products, and I know clients are going to be happy with the result.
Over the past few years, I’ve received many referrals from my clients, especially my brides. It truly is a compliment that they trust me with the look of their bridal party or family, and that they loved it enough to recommend me to others. Your wedding day is one of the happiest, most important days of your life, and I’m honored to be a part of theirs.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have so many ideas for what I want my business to grow into, and have a few plans for this year to lead it in the right direction. For example, bringing on more help to be able to provide additional services that will appeal to my clientele. It’s so exciting to have your own business and have the opportunity for your work and passions to coincide!
