Meet Trailblazer Marcela Plosker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcela Plosker.

Marcela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I definitely wasn’t born with a camera in my hand. I’ve changed careers more times than I can count, nothing ever really felt right. I decided to finish my psychology degree. Just as I was putting in my time doing research and thinking about starting a Ph.D. program, my husband bought me my first DSLR. I had been asking for one so I could take great photos of our family. As I continued research, the camera was taken over by dust, until I had my first child. I loved capturing her grow. That’s when it clicked. Wow, photographers get to capture such important part of our lives, what an amazing job! Then, one day, as I was about to hop in the shower, severely sleep deprived, I randomly clicked on a workshop for beginners. The rest is pretty much a year of figuring it out and loving every moment of it. Honestly, it’s a little different starting a new business with two babies, but there is no better time than the present. I have fallen in love with photography.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, there have been struggles, I went from creating studies to shooting and editing photos, which I had no clue about. The first time I shot in manual I couldn’t figure out exposure and all of my photos were black. I am all for transparency. Let’s be honest, all photographers don’t just become amazing overnight. I take every opportunity to learn. I am grateful I have found my editing and shooting style this year. Now it’s all about perfecting every shoot. I’m loving the challenge, and meeting some pretty amazing people!

We’d love to hear more about Marcela Plosker Photography.
Marcela Plosker Photography specializes in weddings and portraits. I am proud of the relationships I build through my photos. I am not just there to photograph a wedding, I’m there to build memories and relationships. I love that part of it. I enjoy having breakfast with my bride and groom the day after their wedding, and seeing their family grow every year after. I strive to capture true interactions between families and not just staged poses, those are the shots we all fall in love with.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think females are kicking some ass (can I say that?) in this industry! Most of the photographers I come across are female and I love that we have a strong presence in this industry. I think we have come a long way and it’s finally showing.
