Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Moldau.
Jackie, please share your story with us.
Jackie’s Tees was founded after I moved back to the East Coast from Hollywood, CA in 2007. Being a promotional model on both coasts opened the floodgates to the world of custom apparel, so after printing T-shirts on-site for the Plain White Tees (“Hey There Delilah”), we hired some staff and decided to take the business “on the road”, printing light-colored custom apparel at Craft Fairs and Trade Shows.
In July 2008, Velocity ScreenPrint and Embroidery approached us with an excellent Business Management opportunity–to oversee the screen printing and embroidering of larger quantities of apparel, and on dark-colored material.
We then moved our operation to be adjacent with the Ryal Side Cafe, where we occupied the “shed” for 7 years.
In 2014 we were fortunate enough to secure a shop front on one of Beverly, MA’s main streets, and have enjoyed walk-ins as well as business orders nationwide (thanks to Google analytics and SEO!).
Orders can be placed online and delivered, shipped or picked up at our showroom in Beverly, MA. Our favorite orders are upbeat pictures and positive sayings. Changing the World, One custom T-shirt (Tank Top, Sweatshirt, Hoodie or Jacket!) at a Time.
In business since 2007, we have been honored to help clients design special one-of-a-kind wearable gifts.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has taken 11 years to become an overnight success! Seriously though, each day along the way has offered some sort of learning experience. Juggling (and NEVER MISSING! deadlines and often putting into play our mind-reading skills with regards to artwork and sizing), has provided numerous challenges along the way. All of this taught us that the way in which adversity is handled, is what defines us and not so much how we sail through the easy days.
One winter, during a particularly slow season, we temporarily relocated the business to Florida. We had to explain to our loyal followers but once again, thanks to modern technology, we were able to work remotely more easily than would have been possible 20 years ago. All deadlines were made and all budgets were met.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jackie’s Tees & Custom Apparel – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
It seems that Jackie’s Tees is known throughout the community for assisting with last minute custom apparel printing! I say this because frequently the conversations begin like this: “Hi, I’m hoping you can help me. We need something printed for last Wednesday”. (Sort-of kidding, sort-of not!)
I say this tongue-in-cheek, because we are happy when we are able to assist in getting people out of a jam. Often we are able to come-to-the-rescue with a thoughtful last-minute gift or a fun birthday party activity via our “Design & Color-Your-Own-T-Shirt” line. (Shout-out to CB Tuite, one in a successor of owners of Velocity ScreenPrinting, LLC, for honing this idea for us).
We at JT’s work hard to provide caring customer service. Thanks to modern technology, many times you may receive a reply from us, during what others might consider “off-hours”. We have been known to reply during nights, weekends and some holidays as well.
Also…no job too small!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Beverly, MA is SUCH an eclectic city that selecting 1 thing I like best is….ok…THE BEACHES!!! I LOVE THE BEACHES!! I adore that each road was designed in such a way, that they all start/end at Dane Street Beach (& Independence Park). The designers in the 1600′,’s were very clever to ensure that Beverly boasts a cool ocean breeze, even on the hottest of days. (This wind tends to blow over our outdoor clothing racks…THAT is our least favorite thing). 🙂
Both the Executive Director and the Marketing Director of Beverly Main Streets, in conjunction with the ever-popular Mayor (and long-time Beverly resident) Mark Cahill, have done an AMAZING job at getting our 2017 “Livability.com” ranking to be one of the 100 best cities in which to live. Additionally, BMS hosts MANY block parties each year, and gets us all to mingle with neighbors and meet new friends.
Having a plethora of colleges in this general area, gives the city a young, fresh vibe as well. Most notably though is Endicott College. Their many sponsorship programs, grants and monetary awards, have helped so many local residents, students and businesses. In particular, 3 years ago, businesses who met a certain criteria (1st floor, retail location, signing a minimum 3 year lease on either Cabot St or Rantoul St.,), was given back a portion of their lease payment, for the first year in business.
Jackie’s Tees was lucky enough to be one of those new Rantoul Street business owner recipients, thus are forever grateful both to Beverly Main Streets for facilitating, and to Endicott College, for awarding the funds, and helping to put us on the map. NOTE: Back in May of 2018, the community lost President Richard Wylie, who was responsible for many of these programs. Grateful to have had the opportunity to personally thank Dr. Wylie, during a Beverly Chamber of Commerce Endicott College Internship Informational meeting, just weeks prior to his passing.
