Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Miri.
Mona, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In the past 15 years, I’ve been dedicating my efforts towards environmental practice and awareness through my Fine Art Photography. My work represents, whether it is in an abstract form of an idea or very objective, the change of the landscape, the built in environment, and environmental distress. I have incorporated sustainable aspects into my work by reducing production, using strictly bamboo and natural paper, reclaimed wood and frames, and recycled backing. I’ve been an official partner with the Arbor Day foundation since 2009, and every year during Earth month and Earth day, plant 10 trees in our national parks and forests. Through Sterling Planet I also offset my production and travel emissions through wind power. Everything I do is broken down and simplified and carefully looked over to implement my ideals, beliefs, and advocacy for the Arts, the Environment and Sustainability.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road and it is still challenging in the arts. You have to find a niche in the field and be able to live comfortably as an artist and photographer. There are many closed doors but what keeps you going is the belief in yourself and your passion. You have to ask yourself, how much time and effort do I want to put into it? When there is a will there is always a way, I’ve always said, to keep you moving forward and never giving up. I’ve stood side by side with my competitors on a frequent basis, making presentations in board rooms for a project approval, or being a candidate for a contract job, it is really about the hustle of the business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sustainable Photography & Production – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have been very fortunate to work with many high end clients through my Photography and Production business, where I apply and recommend the most sufficient way to work through the process. I work anywhere from product to lifestyle and editorial photography. As well as working with many teams in projects that range from Advertisements, Web, Catalog to Retail in Photography, Producing, Directing, Managing, Digital asset Management, Digital and Print specialist and Coordinator.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I grew up in the wonderful town of Brookline and love the city of Boston. It has been very supportive in the arts and in terms of working with some wonderful companies and talented people. I do hope and wish that there would be even more opportunities for artist and photographer in any city. It is always challenging and competitive to find work or have work recognized.
