Meet Andrew Buonfiglio of OctoCog Marketing & Design in Salem

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Buonfiglio.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After graduating college I started my career designing apparel for the NHL. This opportunity allowed me to learn about brand identity & consistency, and because the company was small, a little about running a business. Eventually, I moved on to an agency out of Gloucester specializing in marketing materials for the food & beverage industry. It was a privilege to work with such established brands like Diageo, Heaven Hill Distilleries, MillerCoors, & Sysco. Again it was also a learning experience in regards to running a small agency with large clients. After a few years, I ventured out on my own, starting a small agency in Salem called Figsburry Creative Group. We had partnered with OctoCog on a few restaurant web & design projects and eventually decided to combine our efforts & talents into one entity. OctoCog Marketing & Design was born and has been growing ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting your own business is always tough. But in the end totally worth it. I’m lucky enough to come from a family of entrepreneurs so, growing up, I learned a lot about the pros and cons of owning your own business. It always seemed to me that hard work, great customer service, and a quality product lead to success.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about OctoCog Marketing & Design – what should we know?
We offer anything a restaurant, brewery, or other food related business might need. From full company branding and graphic design, to websites and loyalty apps, to social media management, digital marketing, and event planning, we help owners focus on what they do best… which usually isn’t digital marketing or design. Our typical client is an amazing chef running a restaurant group with multiple locations. They’re responsible for schedules, payroll, the menu, and legal compliance. There’s no time left to ensure that the restaurants are using social media as effectively as possible. There is no other company out there with experience in both food & beverage AND branding & design. Ours is a different world and we get it.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Having a close-knit group of friends and a supportive family has always allowed me to take risks and do what I love.
