Meet Patrick Lynch of Pat Lynch in New England

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Lynch.

Patrick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Started playing seriously when I was 12. I began playing drums around the same time and started off as a two piece with a buddy. We eventually started a band with a friend and played a few backyard gigs and my first real show the day after Xmas 2005. That band split and a few years later I joined a band called Wild Stone which was around for a few years throughout high school, still playing drums. But during this time I was becoming proficient at writing with guitars lying around, you can’t write much on drums. We played extensively throughout New England and during this time I dabbled playing guitar in a band setting for the first time, playing a one-off gig with a band to play out a few songs I’d written.

After that I joined a band called At All Costs and then a well-established touring group at the end of ’13 called Left Hand Blue. When that band broke up, I became good friends with the guitar player who had an equally successful solo career. He convinced me I should make a record of my own material. I began playing out alone and have toured sporadically throughout the past 3 years. In 2016 I put out my first solo record “I Belong Nowhere”.

As these things go, life doesn’t go the way you always expect it to, and I was living in my car a while and had to sell most of my gear I was recording on. I decided to make my next record in my car. “200: Sucha” was released October of 2017 and the second “200: Party Killer will be released shortly.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Certainly not. Confidence in my songwriting ability has only grown the last few years and even still, thoughts if most are any good still fill my head.

In terms of paths, it’s been one less traveled. There have been nights in cars sleeping in sub-zero temps, hypothermia, financial troubles, repo men, debt collectors, vandalism, foreclosed storage units, selling gear to live, the gamut.

This past winter was spent mostly in my car, writing music, and recording it there as well with my acoustic and my Tascam DR-40. I spent Christmas on a friend’s couch. That was a quite a low point.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pat Lynch – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I keep writing. I write every day. Not always, but most days. When it comes. I don’t know what sets me apart. Perhaps it’s that I do what I want. Within financial means. I don’t do what I don’t want.

I can write a good drinking song.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In terms of music, I plan on releasing a long overdue follow up to the “200” record I put out last year. After that, perhaps put out another compilation of things that weren’t made for the record. Everything mentioned being a strictly digital release.

I would like to save enough to record an electric record. Whether it’s in my own space or a studio. I would be fine with both. I would like to play in more groups whether drums or guitar in any setting, Expand my horizons etc.

I’m starting a pet project as well in the form of a weekly podcast in where I interview folks to get on record what they’re doing from all over. People I’ve run into involved in music, films, the arts, health, general overall adventuring etc. We’ll see where it goes.

I’ve written a book which I’ve completed the editing stages of recently, that should be out by summer’s end. It’s an essay-esque/journal-type format with short stories scattered. Kind of a purge so I can get onto other things. “I’m Right Here and I Want to Dance” it’s called. While proofing that, I ended up writing a novel which will be out in the fall. It’s nearly done. But money gets in the way as usual. For art!
