Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Roy.
Dylan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up as a kid I use to take private art classes as early as 14. I was never really book smart, I always thought outside the box or classroom!!! I took art classes throughout high school probably everyone they offered. I always enjoyed going to art museums, craft fairs, and flea markets over going to the mall as a kid. After high school I really lost touch with my passion of arts due to my alcohol and drug addiction. 5 years ago when getting sober I dove back into drawing. I remember going to a craft fair with my wife and they’re wasn’t really much but candles, leggings, and blankets, not much to offer to young arts adults. At the time I was drawing a lot and my wife told me you need to start doing these. So that’s when it begin I started off by just painting and creating stuff out of wood pallets or free wood on the side of the road, and stocking up inventory. Throughout the years my art and craft has developed a lot. Today I mainly up cycle pretty much anything I can repurpose. From custom furniture to one of a kind signs. My early mornings on the weekends I spend driving back roads of New England looking for antiques and someone else’s junk. You can find me at craft fairs, farmers market, and now my own little shop in my home town of spencer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road I try to let it be my hobby and not my boss. I don’t take on custom orders unless I want to do it and my heart is in it. One struggle for me has been just having that healthy balance between work full time, family, picking, and creating. A lot of people don’t realized the time that goes into everything I make or find.
Please tell us about Home Town Art.
I specialize it one of a kind custom home decor. Really isn’t one specific thing I do. If I have an idea or vision in my head I’ll make it if I don’t know how I’ll learn. I’d say my favorite thing to do and I’m best at is if a client asks for anything vintage Americana, signs, furniture, or antique. That client is going to get something pretty amazing. I’m most proud of keeping it local and affordable. A lot of stuff I make and find goes for a lot more than I sell it for usually. I believe there’s a lot of people who enjoy art, and decor and everyone should be able to afford it. I rather my stuff be in 10,000 homes rather than 3. I call it home town art because I’m the last one out of my brothers who actually stayed in Massachusetts. Like many people do they move to a hip town from small town because there isn’t much to offer and isn’t anything going on. Unlike many people I see opportunity and I’m able to create something that isn’t there already! I guess that’s the artist in me. I enjoy offering a service and creating something that doesn’t exist already.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t have one specific memory. I was fortunate to have great parents who instilled great principals in me and gave me an awesome childhood.

So talented and affordable. Absolutely unique. Love his creative style ❤️ He really doesn’t seem to just do it for the money or the hobby itself. He puts his whole heart into it 💕💕

Hi Dylan
Not sure if this is what you do. My mom always says, “ Isn’t this nice”. I’d like to get a sign made for her Florida condo. Something with grey colors, palm tree, beachy. Is this something your interested in?

Dylan Roy of Home Town Art is a true artist. There have been many times he would show me some material that he is going to make something out of and to the normal person they can’t see the outcome that he can see. His creativity is inspiring and contagious, he makes you want to redecorate and learn the story behind his pieces. He definitely does it for the love of creating glad he was recognized!!
