As cliché as it sounds, I’ve known since I was five years old that I was going to be a hairstylist. The journey which began as a young girl putting her father’s 90’s beach flow hair into rollers, soon turned into a dream come true. I attended a vocational high school where I received my cosmetology license and got my first job in a salon. I continued to work full time through college, never losing interest in my passion. What I love most about being a stylist is the happiness you are able to give to others. Making people feel beautiful and look beautiful each day is a reward.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of the struggles along the way is learning that you are your own biggest critic. Each guest is a canvas, and it is up to the stylist to have the artistic eye and the correct knowledge of color or precision cutting to make it become a reality. It is easy to pick apart your own work striving for perfection. It can eat you alive if you don’t learn to appreciate your own work and talent. That has been the biggest struggle of mine. Learning that you can be proud of your work, while still striving to learn and get better each day.

Within cosmetology, I have found my biggest passion to be extensions. Being able to give a guest instant gratification whether it comes to length, color, or volume is amazing. Dreams really do come true when you are able to give someone the hair they have always wanted within just a few hours. Salon On Haven is a team. We are able to bounce opinions and ideas off of each other. There is no competition within our team. This leads to us all growing as a unit.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Salon On Haven is the perfect location. With the train station right across the street, along with a parking lot, it is easily accessible for multiple forms of transportation. Being on a main road with other businesses also creates a lot of foot traffic. It creates the perfect clientele. You are able to gain guests from in town, and guests commuting to the city. While referrals bring a lot of guests to the salon, our location also plays a big role.
