Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Fasolino.
Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had an interest and passion for makeup and fashion. I studied business management in college and when I graduated I wanted to learn more about makeup and the skin care industry, so I went to Catherine Hinds School of Esthetics to get my Esthetic license. I started working in cosmetic boutiques right away and have been doing it ever since. Working in cosmetic boutiques for the past 9 years, I am now trained in tons of various skincare and makeup lines. It’s truly where I developed a wide range of makeup artistry techniques. My real passion is definitely the makeup aspect of it all. I pride myself deeply on my freelance work doing bridal and special event makeup. I love the feeling of transforming someone, accentuating their best features and overall making them feel beautiful and the best version of themselves.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road. Balancing retail and freelance work can be tough. The hours are not always ideal and the weekends are typically the busiest times for both. The biggest challenge for me is having enough hours in the day or enough days in the week to balance working, promoting my freelance business, corresponding with brides, staying on top of advertising and updating my social media content to get my name and work out there.
My advice for other women starting their journey is to follow your dream and passion. You have to take it one day at a time. This business is a lot of interaction with all types of people. The best thing you can do when starting out is finding a mentor and making connections with other contacts in the industry. Saying “yes” to any job opportunity will help grow your business portfolio and make you a well-versed artist. It’s the best way to get your name and work out there.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Makeup by Lauren Fasolino story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m currently working for two cosmetic boutiques but in most recent years I have been building my freelance business Makeup by Lauren Fasolino. My freelance work includes fashion shows and photo shoots, but my real specialty and work I am most proud of is bridal and special event makeup.
I pride myself on the weddings I do. I truly focus on listening to what my clients needs and wishes are, then translate that into the makeup in providing them. Clients especially brides are looking to me for advice and expertise in achieving the look they want. It is their special day and I want to make them feel confident, beautiful and most importantly themselves on that day.
Makeup by Lauren Fasolino is very important to me and associating my work and personality with that is a big deal. I aim to do the best work I can and building strong, genuine relationships with industry professionals as well as my clients. It’s not just about being a talented makeup artist, but to be successful in this craft, you need to be organized, personable, kind, and gracious all in which I strive to be. Building this business is my goal and passion.
