Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Booker.
Monique, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started in Culinary Arts class at Lynn Tech, I didn’t have any future plans after high school or a college in mind but after the death of my cousin and my brother soon after I had to make a life decision. Let depression anxiety and PTSD swallow me up OR find a reason to move forward. My cousin always wanted to go to college and my brother always wanted better for me so I took that and signed up for Le Cordon Bleu the following fall graduated with an amazing class that are doing major things around Boston to this day! Once I graduated I sold all my things and moved to LA, went on Hells Kitchen. Moved to Houston but didn’t survive the summer heat and so I’m back home now in Boston for almost 2 years. My family won’t stop growing so it’s hard to be away for long!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It happen to me twice so far at 20 and 25, I find myself trying real hard to figure out want I want from life, what would make me happy because it aint a 9-5 and cooking with fellow misfits has always been my happy place. A daily struggle I have is my social anxiety I’m so good at covering it up at this point no one even notices but if I fall off schedule for even 24 hours it a downward spiral and I have to get it in check all over again!
