Meet Ann Antes of Photos by Ann Antes in Westford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Antes.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my very first camera when I was 13 at Christmas, it was a Minolta. It was one of the best Christmas gifts I ever got! I became shutterbug then. I was always taking photos on vacations, at family events and holidays and at gatherings with friends. I took photo classes in high school and they had a dark room which was really cool. I also became an avid scrapbooker making elaborate pages to tell the stories of my photos. The awesome thing about having all those books with all those photos is to be able to walk down memory lane. After I got married my husband and I became avid scuba divers, we bought a Nikonas 5 underwater camera and that opened a whole other world of photography for me. Underwater photography is challenging but the images are amazing. I was able to buy new cameras and lenses and became a Nikon lover. As years passed and we started to have a family I found another way to work on my photo skills and followed my 3 young boys around snapping shots of them. As they got a little older and started to play sports I found myself on the sidelines of soccer, football and lacrosse fields, the side of ski slopes as they became ski racers and the diamonds of baseball fields. I began to mentor with a local photographer to learn how to master portraits and found myself taking senior portraits of friends and family. I also began photographing homes for local real estate agents. I currently take pictures for our high schools football team, alpine ski team, girls and boy’s hockey teams, boys and girls lacrosse and baseball. I also specialize in publishing keepsake programs for some of these teams that help raise money for the players and coaches. In addition, I photograph our youth lacrosse teams and local preschools. I photograph events as well which is a lot of fun. Photography to me is not a job but a part of me, people joke when I go to an event and don’t have my camera with me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been pretty smooth. I left a job on Wall Street when my youngest son was born and didn’t work for several years until I “launched” my photo business. I put quotes around launched because it wasn’t really a launch but more of progression of where I started my photography to where I felt I could take it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Photos by Ann Antes – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in sports photography, portraits (both family and seniors) and real estate. I offer unique items for sports team such as action posters and publication of keepsake programs highlighting the players. I think that is what really sets me apart from other local photographers who focus on portraits. I am most proud of my company when I a client tells me how much they love something I have done for them and how much they love my work.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
No big changes are planned, I have senior portrait season upon me and fall sports beginning soon.
