Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Teig.
Danielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from MassArt in 2016 from the graphic design program. From there, I started with a company called Jibo Inc. as a visual designer. Jibo is a social robotics startup working on productizing the concept of a ‘social robot for the home’ (picture R2D2 and Wall-E). When I started, I worked on everything from illustrating cute emoji’s, to designing marketing materials. After a month or so, my boss at the time asked me if I wanted to help design the mobile app that accompanies the robot. Of course I said yes! I was always interested in digital design, and this was the perfect way to begin learning. After focusing on the mobile app for a few months, I began to work on UX/UI design for the robot itself! It was super exciting to design an unusual, high tech product. After just over a year at Jibo, I felt it was time to move on. The next stop in my design journey landed me at Intrepid. Intrepid, An Accenture Interactive Studio, allows me to work on design mentorship, while boosting my digital design skills. I realized here that I specifically love working on products that help people improve their lives.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I generally can’t complain about the career journey I’ve been on so far! I think small bumps in the road happen to everyone, such as not being fully prepped for an interview, or a freelance job falling through. I take all of these small bumps in the road and take a positive spin on them, as if it wasn’t for those small bumps, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
Intrepid, An Accenture Interactive Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I currently work at Intrepid, An Accenture Interactive Studio. I am a User Experience and User Interface Designer (UX/UI Designer). I design websites and mobile apps for our clients. At Intrepid, we have a design apprentice program that all entry level designers go through. I am fortunate enough to be a mentor for several design apprentices. This means that I help them on their projects and teach them design best practices. I am also lucky enough to help run our design meet up series called Practice Makes. We host these meet ups at our office and have speakers talk about different themes every time. This allows our design team to meet other local designers as well as other people in the field.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by accomplishing goals. At the end of the day, if I feel like I have achieved milestones working towards a goal, then I consider that day successful. On a higher level, I believe success is when I have achieved something that feels rewarding. One of the most successful moments I’ve had so far in my career was having a product I helped design be on the cover of Time Magazine. It felt like I was being rewarded and recognized for all of the hard work I had done.
