Meet Joanne Pierre-Louis of GlamstudioJ in Dorchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Pierre-Louis.

Joanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was in high school I was diagnosed with rare form of bone cancer and had to go through a series of chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatment. As a result, I lost all my hair. The Dana Farber had a program called “Look Good Feel Better” and my oncologist suggested that I stop by the meeting that they had at the clinic. I walk into my first session and the leader placed a box full of makeup in front of me and from that point I have been fascinated with makeup and its ability to make you feel like your best self.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been challenges. Thinking, am I was good enough? Wondering when I would get my next client. Did I even have enough business to keep going? A lot of times, people look at being a makeup artist as just a hobby. Yes, there are fun parts but there are also not so glamourous parts (which happen more than one would think). There are highs and lows just like any other business. There is always something to learn in this business and I am excited to grow and learn!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with GlamstudioJ – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
GlamstudioJ is a New England based travel makeup artist who is passionate about all things beauty. I specialize in bridal, beauty and editorial style makeup. I believe that I am best known for capturing and enhancing my client’s true beauty and taking it to the next level. Two of my proudest accomplishments and being features on a billboard in Boston through the A Mavens World #MAVENPROJECTBOSTON and being in the inaugural issue of Modern Luxury Wedding Boston.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I hope to expand my team and open a lux beauty boutique for my client. I would also love to partner with Boston area companies on various projects. We are always growing and shifting so keep your eye out for new things on the horizon!
