Meet David Agnew of Custom Home Renovation Solutions in Sharon

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Agnew.

David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My interest in carpentry goes back as far as I can remember. As a child, I loved using a hammer and building small projects in the garage. I attended Blue Hills Technical High School in Canton and then went to work for contractors in the Boston and Cape Code areas where I learned the ins and outs of project management, construction site happenings, and refined my carpentry skills. In 2004, I branched out on my own and started doing small projects – window and door replacement, and decks and then quickly moved on to small additions and renovations. I have since moved on to larger home renovations.

My experiences allowed me to gain the necessary skills that helped me develop my design build process which helps my clients have a successful renovation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road, and there have been plenty of lessons learned along the way. Helping to turn somebody’s vision of their home into reality is a complicated process. When I first started doing home renovation projects, I was following a traditional design-bid-build process which often resulted in project delays and unexpected costs because the upfront process did not allow enough room to consider every element of the project. Using the experience I gained in these early years, I have developed a process that places much more emphasis on the upfront planning for a project, resulting in less surprise along the way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Custom Home Renovation Solutions story. Tell us more about the business.
CHRS specializes in home renovation projects, with a special focus on major renovations, kitchen and bathroom remodels and additions. My Design Build process was developed over many years after experiencing flaws of the traditional design bid build process associated with home renovation projects. We are proud to have a process that encourages us to be a team with the homeowner helping to ensure that we keep projects on schedule and budget. My design build process is based on trust, communication, and collaboration to ensure that each client has a successful project focused on budget and accurate specifications

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Other than the traffic, I don’t think there is anything I don’t love about Boston. No matter where you are in the city, there tends to be a neighborhood feel that is warm and welcoming. My wife and I were married at a church in Boston and our children were baptized at that same church. We are proud to raise our children here and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
