Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Quach.
Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was 16 years old, I started a blog and youtube channel more focused on beauty, fashion and lifestyle. Things blew up quickly for me, but by the time I was 18, I realized that my deeper passion was for photography. I didn’t go to school for photography but I worked on teaching myself every detail including understanding the mechanics of photography and cameras. I allocated every Saturday to be mentored and shadow well established Los Angeles based photographers which inevitably led me to professional pursue photography part-time. My inspirations and why my work is so bright and overexposed are Emily Soto and Yuna Leonard. When I first moved to Boston, I started fresh with my work and worked with local Boston boutiques like Crush Boutique, Pinkyotto, and Bobbles and Lace. And aside from that, I worked closely with Maggie Agency for my more creative photo shoots that I would shoot for publications. They all provided wonderful opportunities for my work to truly grow.
By the time I got into college, I decided that I would go back into blogging. I wanted to utilize social media to somewhat create my own niche of photography and blogging about lifestyle, beauty, fashion, health, food, and fitness. My deeper love for encouraging a well-balanced lifestyle is one of the major reasons I am studying public health in graduate school at the moment. I am happy with where I am today because I am able to share what I love, my work, my lifestyle, and growth as a blogger and photographer.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has certainly not been a smooth road for me. With the creative industry, one of the most difficult encounters would be creative blocks. I would have moments in my life where I couldn’t come up with anything but I was itching to shoot. I have learned that you can’t force things and that if you are in need of some creativity, search for inspiration. Inspirations for me can include, collaborating with others, networking, researching, go on an adventure and explore, or even set it aside for a little. Inspiration comes when you least expect it. With photography and blogging, sometimes I have nothing new I want to share or work on. I would go weeks without anything new. Coming up with new content as a blogger is challenging but I take it as it comes because, in reality, no one lives a perfect life and sometimes we are going through some hardships and that’s okay.
My advice for young women looking to start their journey would be to not give up. I went on a one-year hiatus before because I just couldn’t balance school, work and all of the creative things I wanted to work on. Life happens but if you really want something go for it. Don’t feel discouraged just because you aren’t where you want to be. I most certainly still have a long way to go and I would like to believe that I am moving forward. Passion and hard work show, so don’t give up. If there’s something you want to start going for it!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into hello, emy story. Tell us more about the business.
My pride and joy is my photography. I know that there are so many other artists and photographer out there that it becomes incredibly difficult to feel that your work can be set apart from others. I worked on understanding how natural light works and how I can manipulate it by shooting with film cameras first. I am so proud to say that people who reach out to me for my services want the theme and look that I love shooting. I specialize in sunkissed, film-like photography with vibrant and overexposed colors. Also, I feel as though I am known to incorporate flowers into my work as well. Not everyone lives a happy life 24/7 but in the moments that you are your happiest, I do my best to document those and really emphasize genuine carefree bliss in my work. As an influencer and blogger, on the other hand, I am so happy that I can share what I love with people. A huge part of my social platforms is the theme. I do my best to ensure that the theme of my social media is within what I would want it to be for my photography. I want to share my day to day experiences with people and that includes all of the areas I blog about like lifestyle, beauty, fashion, food adventures, health, and fitness. I think what sets me apart from others would be that I genuinely want to encourage positivity and daily healing.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Growing up, I was incredibly different and shy, a bit awkward and I had a hard time opening myself up to anyone really. I played sports my entire life to keep busy but other than that I had no real passion. I started having an interest in photography towards the end and any time, I allocated towards working on it was absolute bliss to me. I think that after high school, I knew that I wasn’t happy with myself and that I wanted a fresh start and to work on myself. I randomly applied for out of state schools while I was in my first year of university and spontaneously moved a month after I got accepted. A new city was the fresh start I needed to meet people, network, discover things on my own, and so much more. I feel that being at one of my lowest points when I was younger really helped me appreciate things when I started to improve.
