Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Dagilis.
Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I opened Gobare in 2009 after working for 4 years for a large day spa and plastic surgeons office. I focused the menu on the services I enjoy providing the most and that would help to maximize the business profits. Over the years, the menu has continued to evolve to keep current with new trends to stay relevant in the evolving beauty industry. I have also been working over the years on my business model to improve employee retention and growth. I am very fortunate to work next to mother and sister who support my vision, and my excellent staff of talent that work as a great team for the studio.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles I have encountered along the way are wanting to grow, but not always knowing the best way to do it, and how to allow employees to continue to grow with my company without capping out with their pay. I think these are typical struggles for small businesses in my industry. My best advice would be to not burn bridges as you evolve and outgrow your current lower level positions. Lead with honesty and integrity so that as you move forward, you will leave a trail of cheer leaders who can support your upward growth.
We’d love to hear more about Gobare Aesthetic Studio.
When I am providing services, I primarily focus on Microblading Eyebrows, Lash Artistry, and advanced skincare treatments. I am known for being the first lash and brow artist in my area to bring lash extensions and microblading into the light locally. I also started a new website and blog this year that focus on the type of work I do as well as show casing some of my other passions such as plant-based recipes, fashion, small business topics, and women’s health.
I am very proud to have a staff off stylists that offer high quality work for our clients. We put a lot of emphasis on continued training and education for our estheticians. We want to educate our clients and give them a very welcoming experience that keep them coming back for years to come. We are professional, but a bit more casual than other spas. I think that helps our clients feel more like they are visiting friends when getting their services done.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I recently have found that reaching out to women in your industry that you respect as well as keeping in touch with those you have been educated by, is great way to network. By doing so, overtime, you will connect to someone who will be a solid mentor. Connect with as many people in your field as often as you can. Facebook groups and small local business groups can be a great place to start.
