Meet Tim Reppert of Soundtrack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Reppert.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started at Soundtrack in 1982 after attending Berklee College of Music. I worked my way up from intern to head engineer in 1985, then moved to NYC to work at Soundtrack NY. I moved to Ithaca NY in 1991 to build my own recording studio there. After 16 years in Ithaca I returned to Soundtrack in 2006 and have been here since then.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had my share of bumps in the road. When I started my own studio in 1991 in Ithaca, NY it took a few years to make any money, but it eventually became a successful recording studio.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are mainly known for audio production for radio and TV advertising. We also do a fair amount of ADR work for Film and TV, replacing the dialog track on TV shows and Hollywood films. We also own a few other companies that are in the same building, a music library company called AirCraft, which licenses music that we have created for advertising, film, and TV productions. A video company called Finish that does visual effects, color grading, and editing for the same industries. On the first floor of our building we have a shooting stage for print or video shoots called Motion CYC. We have many services under one roof.

What were you like growing up?
I was the kind of kid that liked to take things apart, mostly electronics, to see what they looked like on the inside. After a while I was able to put them back together with fewer and fewer extra parts. I also liked to crate clubs with friends that eventually turned into musical groups. I was in all the bands in school and loved to play music. When I saw my first recording studio I realized that was my destiny.
