Meet Letisha and Zeena Brown of Brown & Coconut

Today we’d like to introduce you to Letisha and Zeena Brown.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Letisha and Zeena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our skin took a turn for the worse in young adulthood. We got really bad acne. We knew we had to make a change. We started eating healthier and took better care of our skin. We started Brown & Coconut in 2013 as a blog to share our green, plant-based journey with the world. Alongside eating healthier, we started making our own skincare products. The harsh products on drugstore shelves just weren’t working for us. We made products that worked for our skin. Once we healed our acne, we knew we had to share our products with the world. What began as a blog transformed into a skincare line in 2016.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been bumps in the road. When we started, we thought we needed way too much supplies so we spent tons of money on shipping boxes and displays. We can laugh now looking back on how much we bought. Starting a company is definitely a learning experience.

Brown & Coconut – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a plantbased skincare line. All of our products are vegan and cruelty free. The best part is our products are meant for every skin type. We think we’re most known for being a company that produces effective products that are affordable. We are definitely most proud that our products don’t include any filler ingredients or things you can’t pronounce. What sets us apart from others is that, we have been through the exact skincare troubles as our customers including acne and eczema. We know what it feels like to try a product hoping it won’t irritate your skin or clog your pores. We work hard to make sure our products actually do work!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for us is one of our lovely customers telling us how our products helped their skin. We know the pain that acne and other skincare troubles cause so to be able to help someone through something that can feel so painful is truly magical. We seriously grin ear to ear when we see emails or DMs from customers sharing their results. Reviews never gets old for us!
