Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Genser.
Jamie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my career about 20 years ago in the Cambridge office. I worked for a top producer. After having my first child, I decided to work closer to home. Home is Newton. I began working in the Brookline office. I have been there for about 18 years. I learned how to run a business by watching other top agents and emulating their habits. I come into the office everyday and work on trying harder than I did the day before. This consistency has made me a top producer in my office and my company. I am ranked in the top 1% of my company and have sold well over 100 million dollars of real estate in my career. I think the biggest part of my success is that I love what I do. I’m excited to come into my office everyday and help people find their dream home or help someone sell their home and move on to the next phase in their life… my energy comes from the homebuyers and seller who have created my career and I am thankful for that.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Real estate is not a smooth road. I am not sure anything in life is a smooth road. Hard work, persistence and dedication is what keeps me on my toes. Deals fall apart, a seller will tell me they want to use another agent after I have spent a large amount of time and marketing dollars on the home. Buyers tell you they bought something in another town. All of these bumps are awful but everyone must know that life is not a smooth ride. When something falls apart I say to myself: “I am now closer to getting the next deal completed”. That is the truth. If I didn’t keep up an extremely positive attitude and continue to prospect then, I could not succeed.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a realtor at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and I sell homes and condominiums. I sell all types of homes, large or small. I do specialize in selling high end homes. One of my largest sales was for $8 million dollars in the Brookline area. I have also sold some of the highest priced condos in the area. Coldwell Banker is a great company. They are hands on and give me the marketing tools to help my clients get the highest price for a property in the least amount of time. I believe my biggest asset to a client is my years of experience, knowledge of the market and mostly, my sincere desire to make this process as easy and as smooth as possible for them…
How do you personally define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
I once asked my favorite uncle who built a tiny business into a publicly traded company if he believed in luck. He told me he did. I thought it was interesting and I thought about it for a while. I believe that being in the right place at the right time can produce luck. But that means being out and about and working hard. I believe in staying true to myself and conducting my business by doing the right thing and being a good person and constantly staying positive. I do not ever think of having bad luck because I believe that hard work and constantly planting seeds will lead to success at some point and that you can’t possibly make every deal happen. You can’t win every football game but what you can do is figure out what went wrong and work to make it better for the next game.
