Meet Freeman Deutsch of Cambridge IT Guy in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Freeman Deutsch.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Freeman. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a local Cambridge, MA resident with 10+ years of Harvard Information Technology (I.T.) experience. I spent much of my career automating robotic telescopes for educational use, but I love helping small businesses and non-technical people one-on-one with their technology needs. I visit individuals in their homes to get technology to work for them.

The Cambridge IT Guy offers reasonable rates, and if I don’t fix the problem, the client doesn’t pay! My clients range from novice computer users, poets, non-profit organizations, restaurants, to a retired presidential speechwriter wanting to automatically convert 1990’s floppies with word perfect files to PDF files!

In addition to helping individuals and small businesses with whatever technology problems they have, I also do software development. My current project is developing interactive museum exhibits demonstrating concepts related to motion.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s a big change to move from working for an employer to working for yourself. Simply getting started is the hardest part. Most of my work comes from word of mouth, which is really gratifying—but it takes a while to build up a portfolio of clients. So, marketing and getting the word out has been the toughest part.

Freeman was indispensable to me as I launched my business. I had a hundred details to attend to and figuring out an antiquated but vital computer system was not something for which I had time. Freeman was able to update, reconfigure, explain (without making me feel ignorant), and otherwise handle what needed to be done. He was efficient and agreeable. I have been able to contact him since our work together with small questions as he didn’t cut me off once he was paid. In the long run he saved me a lot of money and I will call him again when I upgrade. I cannot recommend him enough.

During 2017 Freeman Deutsch was hired to update an existing website for the mental health organization “ECT: A Light in the Darkness”. The website is the online information source for the official support group known by the same name, which was founded by Kitty and Michael Dukakis in Brookline, MA in 2010. When the website needed further work and expansion, we were unable to locate the original developer. So, having worked with Freeman in another capacity, we hired him to update the site.

Not only is Freeman accomplished in his knowledge of website development and editing, he is a very personable and responsible professional. He knows the right questions to ask in expediting online needs/goals. He also shows commendable patience and respect in working with clients who may have minimal knowledge about the steps and options for developing a website that is successful for those who most need to access and use it. Our group is pleased to be able to recommend Freeman to future clients who wish to engage an experienced, proven expert for their projects.

Freeman has made my life as a small restaurant owner quite a bit less stressful! Before we found him we had gone through many, many unreliable web maintenance people. This led to understandably frustrated customers who didn’t have access to current menus online. Nowadays, Freeman will check in and ask about our seasonal menu changes before we even have them ready for him! He is very nice, finishes everything in a timely matter, and has consulted on other tech related things outside of the web page. I highly recommend him!

Freeman discussed my backup needs with me and sent me links for recommended hardware. He came to my house to set it up along with an online service. A few days later, he checked in with me to make sure everything was working as expected. Couldn’t be easier!
