Meet Jon Almas of Aeropex Media in Amesbury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Almas.

Jon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a product of Somerville. I moved to Salisbury as a teenager and recently bought my first house in Amesbury – I love the Northshore area! I officially started Aeropex in late 2016 but my passion for video, photo and technology started long before that. Whether it was filming snowboarding trips or building computers, I’ve been creating since I was young.

It all started with drones. At first, it was just a hobby and I would fly for fun while the consumer drone market was starting to develop. I started to build my photography and videography skills with new and emerging drone technology. I initially offered marketing media for local real estate agents and businesses, which was exciting and I was just happy to have a few jobs come up on weekends. Eventually, I knew I wanted to take it a step further. After previously obtaining my part 107 commercial drone license, I started to focus on ways to offer a unique perspective and style, both with photos and video. I soon learned that this was something I could really move forward with, and the drones became a tool in the toolbox.

Since then, I’ve been able to develop some really cool relationships and work with some awesome people!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve had my bumps in the road without a doubt. After having graduated college about 10 years ago, my passion for videography, photography and drones as an aerial platform really motivated me to finally start making my dream a reality. There’s been many late nights spent reading and watching videos online trying to teach myself the ins and outs of technologies, regulations and the industries, I had little experience with previously. Credit to my fiancé, Deondre, for being supportive while I spent a lot of my free time doing all of this while working another full-time job!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aeropex Media story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in real estate photography and videography (inside, outside and above) as well as commercial videography for online marketing. I also provide wedding day cinematography, which I hope to grow and develop in 2018!

Some of the projects I’ve had the most fun working on include videos of town events where I could collaborate with other drone pilots and videographers. I love creating videos and photos that evoke emotion from viewers.

I take a lot of pride in everything I do and I try to constantly improve and learn with each project. With real estate, which is my primary service, I try and offer everything you may need to market a property professionally and effectively. I use flash and edit every photo by hand for accurate colors and even lighting which give interior photos a natural and vivid look. My video tours are geared towards focusing on a home and its unique views and qualities while capturing the potential buyer’s attention with a modern style. I’m not sure if every real estate photographer can get as excited as I do, about getting a shot just right but it sure is a lot of fun!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I consider myself very lucky to have the chance to do something I love to do every day. A mixture of luck and hard work has got me to where I am today and I will need that same combination to continue to move forward in my second full year of business!
