Meet Yoshie Tanaka of Dellaria Salons in Kenmore area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoshie Tanaka.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was a young I do not like to go to school sitting and listening to the teacher as a scatterbrain person it was painful…. Been growing up in Japan I was into this cartoon story about Hairstylist (cartoons are huge in Japan). After the high school I didn’t wanted to go to the college I wanted to do a hair but my parents were not happy about my decision I had to give up my dream once but about the 20 years later when I had a very tough time in my life one of my friend encourage me to start a new career and she asked me if I would like to become hairstylist. I went to hair school I graduated in the top and at the school had a hair competition got 1st place!!! I was glad that I took the risk of being aged to start new career in this field (I was late 40) but I’m now I am grateful I am doing my dream job. I love doing hair.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning it was very hard. I was very insecure about my work and I also feel like I’m too old to start this. business. I was really having a hard time learning about hair color made so many mistakes … also the language I felt like I’m not entertaining enough sometimes. My client’s happiness is my happiness. if my clients are happy for how their hair came out I’ll be happy person…

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dellaria Salons – what should we know?
I work at Dellaria salons. Dellaria has been in the business over 60 years. They have their own cutting. technique. it’s called “Parametric”, which is amazing technic. Continuously educations for the new color and the styles. I am not sure about what to say about specializing I like to do everything …. if I must choose I would like to say extensions. Extensions are very great tools to bring the hair to new styles new life to the hair. Also, Balayage, natural blending.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think I am patient, and make sure I give to my clients what they exactly they want. If they want half inch of then it’s half inch…. lol.
