Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanna Vu.
Vanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My parents were faced with a difficult decision and we decided to relocate from Vietnam to the United States. I was 15 years old when my family of ten moved here. We settled in New Orleans and I finished High School there. My parents worked very hard to earn a living and take care of my siblings and I. My parents have a keen entrepreneurial spirit that they passed on to their children and always encouraged us to work hard to earn a living. I learned and became a licensed manicurist early on and moved up here to MA. As my parents always encouraged, I worked hard and saved enough money to start my own business in Quincy, MA. After a few years, I realized that I love the city of Boston and want to open a nail/beauty salon here. I learned a lot over the years. I worked hard and was able to start my dream business in Boston. I’m proud of my accomplishment because I did it all on my own. At Treasured Hands Nail & Beauty Salon, our formula for success is to provide the best, cleanest and most professional relaxing experience for our guests. I enjoy seeing all of our clients and meeting new people every day. Our team works hard and takes pride on providing the very best service we can for each client. This has allowed us to develop a great reputation and a whole lot of friends. I’m looking forward to working and living in Boston for many years to come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business is not easy. We had to do a complete renovation of our space and meeting deadlines and attaining all the licensing can be challenging at the same rent is due. Managing a staff of 13 people 7 days per week is my most challenging task. I try to keep everyone happy and provide a good positive work environment as much as possible.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Treasured Hands Nail and Beauty Salon – what should we know?
We are in a service/people business. We are a full-service nail and waxing salon. We offer manicure, pedicure and waxing services. We specialize and are known for superior guest service and high-quality results. Our clients leave very happy and satisfied with their experience. I’m proud of the great number of clients who have been loyal to our salon over the years and I’m proud of our great reputation. Treasured Hands is the first Green & Clean salon in Boston. We are always focused on providing a cleanliness and a friendly professional experience. One of the features that sets us apart is that I am in the shop 7 days a week. I’m interacting with our staff and all clients every day.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents have always encouraged me to take risks and work hard. Since my Family are all still down in New Orleans, I’ve had to build my business on my own. My Family have been my supporters.
