Meet Trailblazer Phiphi Liang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phiphi Liang.

Phiphi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
About 5 years ago, I started off assisting doing wedding makeup and by chance had an opportunity to work on a photoshoot and at that moment I knew at that was the direction I wanted to take my career towards. So, three years ago, I got really serious about it and started to connect with like-minded creatives to create shoots. Along the way, I was able to network and got myself into New York Fashion Week and have been published in magazines internationally.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, in order to survive in this industry you need passion and lots of it. There will be people who will judge your work harshly, working for free until you don’t know if you can survive on just “exposure” or just naysayers who tell you that “it’s not a real job”. But, I learned over the past two years that as long as I surround myself with like-minded creatives that I can get thru anything because they too are going thru the same thing I am. I am lucky to have been able to connect with people from all over the world to help me along this journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
I am a freelance makeup artist and I specialize in beauty and editorial work.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Work hard. If you have the drive and passion for something, you shouldn’t let anything get in the way of what you believe your destiny is.
