Today we’d like to introduce you to Manita Bunnagitkarn.
Manita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I established CHA YEN THAI COOKERY in Watertown, MA. The restaurant serves all my creations together with most familiar Thai foods. I intend to make my creations available for everyone to enjoy and experience at the best value. Casual dining is the way to implement my intention. CHA YEN has been well visited by local resident as evidenced by the number of regular customers. The success of CHA YEN proven format has inspired me to offer my creations to even wilder ranges of audiences. KALA THAI COOKERY was recently opened in the heart of Boston’s tourist district on Hanover Street. KALA THAI offers even more unique dishes of my creations as well as more familiar Thai dishes. I welcome all to experience my creations at both locations.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been smooth so perseverance is always a must. I came here to the USA when I was a child pretty much penniless and had to work my way up the ladder and it was very difficult. My advice to other women would be that to make sure that they spend time in their craft and to be competent at what they do as early as possible. Be hardworking and disciplined.
We’d love to hear more about Kala Thai cookery.
My memory is full of the great Thai foods as I experienced when I was growing up in Thailand. I want to create and re-create those menus by using the finest ingredients available. My creations may contain difficult to find ingredients, but then adhere to the authenticity is always a must. Great Thai foods must be created in a complete package from ingredients to plating. I want to create a menu that Incorporated my interests and strictly adhere to the authenticity of each dishes and make available for all to experience it.
