Meet Trailblazer Civonnee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Civonnee.

Civonnee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi! I’m Alysia Anderson by day and Civonnee by night. Born and raised in Richmond, VA, I graduated from Hermitage High School in 2012, I attended college but had to put on pause to make ends meet. Growing up I was very weirdly creative always doodling on my bedroom walls, clothing, and shoes, Yes, my parents let me express myself, haha. I feel that was one of my biggest blessings because I always would express myself boldly through my hair and wardrobe until this day I still do. Civonnee Classic’s is my clothing line that is a representation of my style on a normal basis, I love when people dress how they feel and like that quote says “goes out into the world as if it is their runway.” When people wear my clothing I want them to feel confident, sexy, cool, depending on the type of piece. I also am the over of  Civonnee Angels which is a upcoming modeling agency in RVA. Be sure to like and follow @civonneeangels

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road has not always been smooth but always remember easy come, easy go! The vision can change, speaking from experience I started out being too lein, getting far too people second chances, investing in people that were wasting my time and energy. If it drains your energy, it is time to let it go. Your passion may go another direction but you must follow your heart. If you have to work that 9-5 to invest in your business then do so, do not repeat, do not let others deter you away from dreams. Like I always say, never become enslaved to society and do all that you love to do.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a caregiver by day. I am also a model, developing artist, Business owner and creator of Civonnee Classic’s. I am most proud that my line is a total representation of my style most of the time, all of my items that I put out is personally something I would wear, what can I say I am a truly a weirdo haha. My look, style, and music come from the heart though I have changed my looks and things in the past that was because I didn’t know myself. Finding yourself is the most beautiful thing that life can bring. You can check out some of my music

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
In the past, I would go out to more events as well as being apart of more events to network with others in the fashion field. As long as your professional every time you work with someone, word of mouth also will help your bookings & sales. I have been modeling on and off since the age of 14 at my younger ages my mother would book a lot of my gigs, and I would say 17 to now (I am 24), I have booked all my paid and TFP myself, no manger or anything. I”ve had some trauma in my life in the past, and honestly not too long ago so it is hard for me to trust Outsiders. My best advice for finding a mentor would be in your church home or any church home, your school, a close family member, maybe you play a sport or instrument and feel you can trust that teacher or coach. Don’t lose your head trying to get your life together on your own, we all need a little help sometimes! I’ve also enjoyed going to counselor to air everything out and leave it right there in the room. My best medicine is putting all my good and bad energy into perfecting all of my crafts, find what completes you.
