Meet Susan Hassett of Cocktail Sneakers in Marblehead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Hassett, founder of Cocktail Sneakers.

Susan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today?
The Cocktail Sneakers story began years ago as so many great ideas do: beachside at cocktail hour. I had been shopping for a sneaker smart enough for an impromptu meeting and polished enough for after sunset, but every sneaker in sight looked exclusively like a gym shoe. It was during cocktail hour on Nantucket, relegated to my generic sneakers, when I first uttered the words, “I just need a great pair of cocktail sneakers!” Since I never found the sneakers I was looking for, I resolved to create them myself!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue our passions, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting from concept to collection was a rewarding journey that took several years. One of the challenges I faced was overcoming my own self-doubt and staying true to my vision. I rejected many prototypes before I finally honed in on the absolutely perfect Cocktail Sneaker, a pair that complemented a woman’s versatile lifestyle and could transition confidently from morning to evening. It was sometimes hard to listen to my own voice over others who may have wanted to move faster or take shortcuts, but in the end everyone on the team was happy with the results and we have been moving forward ever since.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Cocktail Sneakers reflect an inherently feminine design, personal flair, and the unrivaled comfort of an athletic shoe. Every Cocktail Sneaker has a unique, almond-shaped toe and thin sole, and is designed to reflect an elevated sense of femininity and natural confidence.

Each Cocktail Sneaker is constructed with calfskin and other fine materials with thoughtful detailing, including our signature sunset-orange sock lining made of breathable kidskin. What makes them so comfortable is our performance-level insoles made of proprietary high-density, closed-cell foam and a deep heel cup that provides better support and shock absorption.

This perfect harmony was achieved through years of development, starting with the design process in Brooklyn, New York, wear-tested and brought to life by a team of talented women around the globe. Our entire team is, by total happenstance, comprised of dynamic women: from an all-female team of designers, to a factory owed and run by a woman, to all-all-female branding and development firm!
