Meet Simon D.C. John of The Original Tremont Tearoom in Downtown Crossing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simon D.C. John.

Simon John, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A friend took me to the Tearoom on my first visit & a year later I met the former owner (Alex Palermo) at the Tearoom & I’ve been here from that point on, over twenty years ago. Alex was my main teacher and he & I worked very well together and became fast friends. As I say: “The tearoom has been my own Hogwarts” It is & has been a very interesting place for work, friendship, & learning. I’ve met a cast of thousands over the years of all kinds of people and this never gets old!

Has it been a smooth road?
The tearoom is a unique type of business in the way that it has been in the same area of downtown Boston for over 81 years & is the oldest kind of business of its kind in the nation. We re-opened a bit over a year ago in our new location & people know its name and reputation so it is all about reminding people of who you are and let them know about our new location, in this day and age you must remind the public of the name & they most always come back a few months or a few years later.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are known for our readings first and foremost, psychic, tarot, mediumship, & tea leaf. It opened in 1936 in downtown Boston & we are still in downtown Boston due in large part to our good reputation.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! Downtown Boston has been very good for us over 80 years. We entertain & try & help people, we are not gypsies, we keep a standard & our customers expect this from us and I think this is the main reasons we are still here.
