Meet Shirley Rodriguez of Shirley Anne Photography in Waltham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Rodriguez.

Shirley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Shirley Anne Photography started after a passion for photography that started back in 2010. I had my oldest son and was always carrying a camera. A few years later my husband bought me my first DSLR and that made me learn more about photography.

In summer of 2016, I decided to start my little business focusing on everything related to Motherhood, but my passion was in Birth Photography and in October 2016 I had the pleasure of documenting my first birth. Birth was always another of my passions and it just seemed like a perfect mix: Birth Photography!

Throughout my career of Social Work, I always wondered of a way to help people, and I feel that my business has been a way of making that possible!

Besides the families that have allowed me to capture special moments for them, my favorite subjects to photograph have been my two boys!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’ve definitely had some bumps on the road. I am a very positive person, so I always see the best in everything and know that the struggles I’ve found and will continue to find will only be learning steps for me to grow!

I think our biggest struggle has been trying to normalize Birth Photography in the New England area. We are aiming to show that Birth is normal, powerful and deserves to be documented.

Shirley Anne Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Shirley Anne Photography specializes in all Motherhood Portraits. We aim to capture the journey of a mom from the day they learn they are expecting, to the birth of their child and that first year of life.

Our passion is definitely Birth Photography, but we also provide Maternity Sessions, Lifestyle Newborn Session, among others.

We love to work with families, with moms and I think that what makes us unique is our effort to support mothers in their journey, especially those first few days/weeks which tend to be a bit difficult. We provide a resource guide on our website that we send to our families based on their needs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment has happened from day one, meeting every single one of the families we’ve been able to meet in our business makes us VERY proud! Also, being invited into a Birth space, that space that is so private and special, it is just an amazing experience.
