Meet Shari Weschler Rubeck of Coastal Contemporary Gallery in Rhode Island

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Weschler Rubeck.

Shari, please share your story with us.
Our journey began in 2013 with Coastal Living Gallery located in the historic harbor town of Wickford, Rhode Island. CLG is one of Coastal Properties Group’s offices, functioning primarily as a gallery. This unique and more conversational arrangement has allowed for the real estate brokerage to connect with many people in way that a conventional office setting may not.

After five years of solid exhibitions featuring many talented artists with great events to boast about, Coastal Properties Group decided it was time to broaden its footprint to Newport and expand the conversation into the realm of contemporary art by sponsoring a new gallery space.

Our owner and director Shari Weschler Rubeck is delighted to be featuring highly skilled and professional regional and national artists. Coastal Contemporary Gallery hosts monthly events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thankfully, there have been no bad experiences, we feel very welcomed in Newport.

Once we found the perfect location, the ball was rolling quickly! With a bit of pressure to ready our space that was under complete renovation from the beginning of April up until the week of our soft opening reception on May 10th the gallery enjoyed a strong and supportive attendance.

Our goal was to launch in time to welcome the Volvo Ocean Races 2018 into Newport and we are very grateful for everyone’s help along the way.

Coastal Contemporary Gallery – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Established in 2018, the gallery is located at 491 Thames Street in the heart of Newport, Rhode Island.

Coastal Contemporary’s mission is to feature a range of artwork from traditional to contemporary, with emphasis on the contemporary. We wish to represent a variety of interests, media and subject matter by highly skilled regional and national artists, with monthly receptions, and invite our stable to participate in artist talks. Coastal Contemporary is a member and participant of Newport Gallery Night, Discover Newport and Newport’s Chamber of Commerce.

As our gallery takes root it may produce special exhibitions with specific themes and/or guest juried ‘calls for art’, develop a creative seminar program with guest speakers and exhibit two person and solo exhibitions.

We are striving to be a facilitator for cultivating our artist’s careers. We love providing excellent customer service with a friendly, approachable attitude. We enjoy helping first time buyers, emerging collectors and strive to reach the established collector.

Owner and director, Shari Weschler Rubeck, is also a professional, international artist and an art collector. With her experience, knowledge and passion, she has an intimate understanding of the multiple perspectives involved in the business of art.

We know that we must be stretchy, try new things, delve into service options, connect with other businesses, create collaborations and new relationships, examine more than one dialogue, build a strong brand, formulate new online marketplaces and above all else bring the highest quality of art to the public.

Coastal Contemporary Gallery looks forward to becoming an ArtMoney partner, providing the unique opportunity of interest free financing on artwork(s) from $1000 up to $50,000, and affording our customers immediate enjoyment of their purchase without delay.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I receive great joy in the public’s support of my own artwork and brand as Sumo Bunni and validation in the outpouring of appreciation and encouragement for both Coastal Living Gallery and Coastal Contemporary Gallery. Life is full and limitless.
