Meet Shannon Sanches of Shannon Leigh Photography in Milford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Sanches.

Shannon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As far back as I can remember I have always been a creative soul, a hands on kind of girl. For me, personally, it’s the only way I feel that I can express myself, my thoughts and my memories. It sounds crazy but becoming a photographer was never in my plans. It was something I always cherished, fiddled with but never dreamed it would be a part of my life the way it is today.

It was about a year after my daughter was born when I was hit with that “ah ha” moment. But I thought to myself, how are you going to make it? The market is saturated, you do not know how to run a business, you are not good enough…etc etc. The list goes on right? That was not going to stop me though. Creativity takes courage and you have to get out of your own way. No matter what it is that you are pursuing. Just. Go. For. It. And so I did. Full in. That “ah ha” moment you have is something you listen to-it’s your intuition and that is something I thoroughly believe in. That moment of insight, discovery, and recognition- it exists. I never thought it did, I will be honest, but I do now. It doesn’t matter how old you are, what circumstance you are in, be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.

Now, 5 years later, I create memories, tell stories, and capture moments in families’ lives that pass in the blink of an eye. Without my own loving family I would never know the importance of this. Now it is something I call my “job” and I could not be more grateful for it.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I do not think a smooth road exists. Without bumps and bruises you will never learn. There have been many along the way and I am sure there will be many to come but you have to keep you head held high and your focus on point. I think the biggest struggle for any photographer out there is trying to keep yourself set apart. The internet is a global hotspot for inspiration but it can also drag you down in your own journey to do better. I came to a point where I stopped looking to others for my own direction and started listening to myself more. I feel that is the bumpiest road in the business, but the only competition I see now, is myself.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Shannon Leigh Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Shannon Leigh Photography specializes in Newborn Photography. That is where I began, almost gave up, tried again, continued with, tried other routes but always came back to it and thus where I have stayed-it is challenging but capturing those first stages of life is incredible and is something I will never give up on. It will never get old.

I am known for my personal creativity and special unique touches. I have an organic, film portrait style which I feel in my mind sets me apart from others.

My best moment happened about 2 weeks ago when I purchased my very own studio. That glorious moment when I unlocked the door and stepped into what I have been working so hard to achieve was and still is tremendous. I would not be there without the support and help of my husband as well who has endured many of those sleepless what if nights with me and his hard work ethic to get us through it all.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am SO looking forward to getting all Joanna and Chip Gaines on my new studio from the bottom up! If only they could pay me a visit haha!

As far as changes for my clients and business I am looking forward to offering more valuable print products for them to cherish for generations. The digital world is extremely saturated and there is such an incredible feeling of accomplishment and value being able to hand your clients a priceless heirloom.
